Of course, these traditional foods have a taste that will pamper your tongue and stomach. Here are some traditional foods from North Sulawesi that you can try.

1. Tinutuan

Tinutuan is the name of the famous Manado porridge from North Sulawesi. There is a place in the center of the crowd specifically made for tinutuan traders. 

This is because this Manado porridge has become a cooking tradition passed down through generations in the area. To taste this traditional food, you can go directly to Jl. Wakeke.

2. Klapertart

The next traditional dish from North Sulawesi that you can try for its delicious taste is Klapertart. 

This original cake from the region has been influenced by Dutch culture, made with a combination of traditional ingredients from South Sulawesi and a Western taste.

3. Saut

The next original dish from North Sulawesi that you can taste is saut. The name of this traditional food refers to a vegetable made using the stem of young banana trees. 

The stem used is taken from the innermost part after the leaves are discarded. After that, it will be cut into small pieces and flavored with spices.

4. Nasi Jaha

Nasi jaha is also one of the traditional foods from North Sulawesi that you can enjoy for its very indulgent taste. 

This traditional dish is made with glutinous rice and coconut milk. Both of these basic ingredients will later be placed in bamboo lined with banana leaves.

The cooking process for nasi jaha itself is done by burning it. It is no wonder that this original dish from North Sulawesi is often made as a souvenir that you must buy. 

In addition, nasi jaha is always present at every important event, such as a thanksgiving ceremony.

5. Tinoransak

For pork lovers, you can try one of the traditional culinary delights from North Sulawesi, which is tinoransak. Of course, this traditional dish consists of pork as the main ingredient, cooked by grilling. 

Not much different from the nasi jaha dish, tinoransak also requires bamboo as a place to put its ingredients.

Meanwhile, other ingredients needed to make this original dish from North Sulawesi are pig's blood and vegetables as complements. 

Therefore, for those who are not Muslim, it is very possible to try this delicious culinary delight.

6. Kawok

Kawok, or also known as rat, is one of the traditional dishes prepared by the people of North Sulawesi. However, not all types of rats can be cooked into a dish that creates a delicious taste. 

They only make this traditional food from forest rats with white tails. Before entering the cooking process, the forest rats must be cleaned first. 

They will burn it first, and only then will the contents of its stomach be removed. 

Once the forest rat is clean, it is ready to be cooked into kawok. Tourists, both local and international, acknowledge that kawok is an extreme traditional dish.

7. Paniki

Not only kawok is considered an extreme traditional dish from North Sulawesi, but there is also another food called Paniki. This traditional culinary delight is made from bats seasoned with coconut milk. 

Paniki has a different taste when you eat it, especially when consuming the bat's wings.

8. Mujair Bakar Woku

Mujair bakar woku has also become one of the iconic culinary dishes in North Sulawesi, especially in the Manado area. 

This traditional food from North Sulawesi should not be missed by you. It would not be complete if you are visiting the area but do not taste it.

9. Cakalang Fufu

A traditional dish from North Sulawesi that has been around for a long time is cakalang fufu. This food is made from cakalang fish that is seasoned and then smoked until cooked. 

Before the smoking process, the cakalang is first clamped with a bamboo frame. The word fufu itself is derived from the Manado language, which means smoked.

10. Pangi

The original dish from North Sulawesi that is often found at wedding events is pangi. Pangi is made by finely chopping and then seasoning it with lemon leaves, shallots, and other spices. After all the spices are mixed, the pangi must be grilled until cooked.

11. Payangka

Another traditional food from North Sulawesi made from fish is payangka. This culinary delight can be cooked in various ways, either fried or cooked with spices. 

It will be even more delicious if the sweet-tasting payangka fish is cooked using woku spices.

12. Sate Kolombi

Sate kolombi is also one of the original dishes from North Sulawesi that has a spicy taste. This satay is made using kolombi meat, which is then given spicy seasoning. 

If you are a fan of spicy food, do not miss trying this kolombi satay culinary delight.

13. Brenebon

There are two types of brenebon dishes in North Sulawesi, such as brenebon soup and brenebon ice. For the brenebon soup, some are made with red beans and some are cooked with pork. The difference between the two lies in their taste, with the red bean being sweet and the pork being savory.

14. Rica Rodo  

In addition to kolombi satay, there is also another spicy culinary delight from North Sulawesi, namely Rica Rodo. This traditional dish is made from eggplant with super spicy rica seasoning. 

Not only that, corn and long beans are also cooked together with the eggplant to create rica rodo.
