In addition to being famous for its natural beauty, Southeast Sulawesi also has an abundance of culinary wealth. There are various unique dishes that cannot be found in other regions. 

The cuisine of this area also has a characteristic spice with a sharp aroma that whets the appetite. Here’s a review of the delicious 15 typical dishes from Southeast Sulawesi that you shouldn't miss!

1. Sinonggi 

Sinonggi is one of the typical foods from Southeast Sulawesi. This dish is a specialty of the Tolaki tribe that has existed since ancient times. This delicious cuisine is made from sago that is extracted from its essence. 

Then boil it until it reaches the desired elasticity. Sinonggi is served with side dishes and vegetables. 

2. Sate Gogos 

The next typical food that should not be missed is Sate Gogos. This satay has a unique taste and is certainly delicious when eaten. 

Unlike satay preparations in other regions that use chicken or beef, Sate Gogos is made from shellfish skewered with bamboo. Then, this satay is grilled over charcoal.

In addition to being different in terms of its main ingredient, the presentation of this shellfish satay is also quite unique. Sate Gogos is not served with peanut sauce like regular satay. 

The shellfish are only boiled with selected spice seasonings, then skewered with bamboo to make satay. However, sometimes there are also satays that are given spicy sambal or sweet bacem seasoning. 

3. Kabuto Khas Sulawesi Tenggara 

Kabuto is one of the culinary dishes on the list of 15 typical foods from Southeast Sulawesi that must be tried. This food is made from cassava that is processed by drying it. 

Initially, the cassava or tuber is grated first. Then, the grated cassava must be dried until the moisture content in the cassava decreases. 

Once the cassava is dry, there are several steps that must be taken. You must process it first by steaming it. 

After that, the cassava can be added with sugar or salt. To enhance the flavor and aroma, Kabuto is sprinkled with grated coconut. The savory taste of coconut will add to the enjoyment of this snack dish. 

4. Lapa-Lapa 

If in Java there are lontong and ketupat, in Southeast Sulawesi there is also a similar culinary dish called Lapa Lapa. It has a long and oval shape and is wrapped using fresh young coconut leaves. 

Unlike lontong, Lapa Lapa is processed in a special way to produce the right texture.

This food is made from rice mixed with coconut milk, then steamed until half-cooked. Once done, Lapa Lapa must be wrapped with young coconut leaves and tied to prevent spillage. 

After that, this dish must be boiled again until it reaches the desired doneness. Usually, Lapa Lapa is served with salted fish and other food preparations. 

5. Kasoami 

Kasoami is one of the dishes included in the list of 15 typical foods from Southeast Sulawesi that must be tried. This delicious cuisine is made from sweet potatoes served as a main dish. 

This food is processed by boiling, then served with other menus. For example, vegetables, side dishes from various fish preparations, and so on.

6. Karasi 

Karasi is a typical food from Southeast Sulawesi that has a characteristic sweet taste. This is because this food is made from young corn mixed with liquid brown sugar or known as gola bone lonsa. 

However, there are also Karasi preparations made with a mixture of granulated sugar and rice flour mixture. 

In addition, the uniqueness of this food can be seen from its shape. This is because Karasi is molded using coconut shells, so it has a hollow head shape. 

After being shaped, Karasi must be fried in hot oil until it turns golden yellow. Once cooked, this dish is ready to be served as a delicious snack. 

7. Ikan Dole 

The next typical cuisine that you must try is Ikan Dole. This dish has a distinctive savory and delicious taste because it is made from the base ingredient of mackerel fish. 

Then, the processing of this food, which is included in the list of 15 typical foods from Southeast Sulawesi, is combined with grated young coconut and fried until brown. 

8. Luluta

In addition to Lapa Lapa, there is also a typical culinary dish from Southeast Sulawesi made from rice called Luluta. This dish has a savory taste because it is cooked using bamboo. 

Before being placed in bamboo, the rice is wrapped in banana leaves to facilitate processing. Once cooked, Luluta will be served with grilled fish and special sambal. 

9. Parende Kakap Merah

This food is a type of sea fish preparation with a characteristic spicy and slightly sour broth. Generally, the fish used to serve this menu is red snapper.

10. Sup Konro 

Sup Konro is a soup dish that has a fatty texture with beef ribs as the main ingredient. This soup must be boiled for a long time so that the spices seep into the meat. 

For serving, Sup Konro can be enjoyed with rice or just the soup itself according to your preference.

11. Halua Kenari

From its name alone, the dish included in the list of 15 typical foods from Southeast Sulawesi can be identified as being made from walnut. 

The walnuts are then mixed with melted brown sugar and shaped accordingly. The taste of Halua Kenari is very crunchy and sweet, making it a perfect afternoon snack.

12. Bubur Sagela

If you are on vacation in the coastal area of Sulawesi, you should try Bubur Sagela. This dish is a porridge mixed with dried roa fish. 

In addition, there are also added spice seasonings to make this dish, such as chili, tomatoes, onions, and galangal. As a complement, it can be served with crackers and cucumber slices. 

13. Kanre Santan 

Kanre Santan is a rice dish processed using coconut milk and served with various side dishes. The local people usually enjoy it with fried tuna, duck meat, eggs, potato cakes, and noodles. To enjoy this culinary dish, you don't need to worry, as it is widely sold in local stalls.
