Going on vacation to a region feels incomplete if you don't try its local food. Especially if you are traveling to Madiun, as this city in East Java has a lot of delicious local culinary delights. 

Here are some of the most sought-after traditional foods of Madiun by tourists when visiting there.

1. Lontong Tahu Telur

As the name suggests, lontong tahu telur is a dish made of lontong with added tofu and eggs, then drizzled with peanut sauce. 

For the locals, this lontong tahu telur is often referred to as tahu panggung. It is usually served with chopped green onions and fried onions on top.

In addition, sellers of lontong tahu telur will provide sambal on the table, which you can add as you like. 

The presence of sambal is considered to make the dish even more delicious, especially since the people of East Java are known for their love of spicy food. 

2. Nasi Pecel

If you visit Madiun, don't forget to try nasi pecel. Nasi pecel can also be found in several other regions in East Java, but of course with slightly different variations and flavors. 

The difference of nasi pecel from Madiun lies in the container used, as it is usually served on banana leaves here.

Additionally, it is served with kembang turi and rice crackers. The composition is not much different from pecel in general. 

You can add side dishes such as chicken, tofu, tempeh, quail eggs, and rempeyek.

3. Nasi Jotos

Another traditional food from Madiun that you must try is nasi jotos. Just hearing its name, you might already feel that this dish is quite unique. 

In reality, the name nasi jotos comes from the shape of its packaging, which resembles a clenched fist of an adult. If imagined, it certainly looks like a very small portion. 

However, you don't need to worry, because one package of nasi jotos already contains white rice along with simple side dishes like tempeh, tofu, noodles, eggs, and sambal with a distinctive and delicious taste. Enough to satisfy your hunger, especially since it is quite affordable.

4. Rujak Petis

Rujak petis should also not be missed while in Madiun. This is because petis is one of the typical seasonings from East Java that you must experience directly from its origin. 

Rujak petis generally contains lontong, half-dry fried tempeh, tofu, water spinach, boiled bean sprouts, and cucumber. 

5. Soto Madiun

If you travel around Indonesia, you will find many soto dishes. Each region indeed has its own special soto, so this traditional food from Madiun should not be missed. 

With a savory taste, you will get a portion of soto that contains rice, soto broth, skin satay, chicken liver and gizzard, and fried tempeh.

6. Soto Kutilang

In addition to soto madiun, this city also has another type of soto that is equally delicious. The legendary one that is always visited by tourists is the Bu Topo village soto stall. 

Locals refer to it as soto kutilang because of its location on Jalan Kutilang. The hallmark of this dish lies in its abundant meat.

7. Soto Ayam Kondang

Not stopping there, Madiun also has soto ayam kondang, which is one of its traditional culinary delights. This soto is served in a portion of rice drenched in clear broth. 

It is then topped with free-range chicken and boiled eggs. You can also add other side dishes like sausages, chicken offal, and brutu.

8. Ayam Panggang Madiun

The next traditional food from Madiun is grilled chicken. It may sound ordinary and not special, but don't be mistaken. 

Because Gandu Village, which is the center of grilled chicken in this city, has its own unique and delicious taste. Spicy seasoning combined with coriander and garlic makes it even more appetizing.

9. Pentol Corah

This dish consists of pentol made from starch mixed with flour, then processed with various spices and stuffed into tofu, while the rest is shaped into small balls. Usually, pentol corah is served with sauce, making it even more delicious.

10. Brem

This dish is a snack that is often used as a souvenir for tourists. You could say that brem is one of the most popular souvenirs from Madiun.

11. Kue Manco

Another snack that is a traditional food from Madiun is kue manco. This traditional snack is even considered a heritage from ancestors, which has been famous since long ago.

12. Kerupuk Puli

13. Bluder Cokro
