5 Effective Tips for Camping During the Rainy Season

For nature lovers, camping is a fun activity. Spending the night outdoors, lighting a campfire, and chatting all night with friends or family are three of the many activities done while camping. However, unpredictable weather like we have been experiencing lately can certainly disrupt camping activities.
There's no need to worry; there are no restrictions on camping during the rainy season. However, it is necessary to pay extra attention to several things compared to the dry season to avoid unwanted incidents, such as hypothermia.
Here are some tips that you can consider when deciding to camp during the rainy season.
Pay Attention to the Type of Tent
During the winter, the wind blows stronger than in the dry season. If you decide to camp during the rainy season, you need to pay attention to the type of tent used.
The tent should be of the double-layer type. This type of tent will be strong even when the wind blows hard.
Use a Flysheet
A flysheet is a tarp that is placed over the tent. This tarp acts like a roof for the tent and also provides protection around the tent when it rains. Thus, the bottom of the tent will be protected, and the possibility of water seeping into the tent will be reduced.
When the weather suddenly gets hot, the flysheet also protects the tent to keep it cool. The flysheet provides a larger space for shelter.
Bring a Raincoat
Instead of bringing an umbrella, it is better to bring a raincoat when camping during the rainy season. This is because raincoats are more compact to store than umbrellas. Additionally, wearing a raincoat is like wearing a garment that fits the body, allowing both hands to be used to hold trekking poles to avoid slipping.
Bring Plastic Bags
Plastic bags are indeed not environmentally friendly. However, they are needed to wrap items that must be protected because they will be damaged if exposed to rain, such as mobile phones or other gadget chargers.
The chosen plastic bags should not be ordinary thin plastic bags, but rather thicker ones, preferably with a flip to make it easy to close and open, like plastic bags for wrapping clothes.
Not only should they be used to wrap electronic equipment when caught in the rain, but it is also advisable to wrap electronic equipment at night because they could be affected by water seepage or dew.
Ensure Your Body Stays Warm
Make sure your body stays warm while camping during the rainy season. Don't let yourself get hypothermia and put yourself in danger. Light a campfire. Since you can't predict when it will rain, this is where the flysheet comes in handy.
By installing the flysheet over the tent, it can provide more space in front of the tent to light a campfire. The wood used to light the campfire may be slightly damp, making it difficult to burn. Therefore, it is recommended to bring newspapers or paper that easily ignites to start the fire for burning the wood.
Wear thick clothing, a jacket, and a blanket. Don't let your body feel cold at night. It is advised not to wear cotton clothing because cotton takes a long time to dry and tends to feel cold when damp. It is better to use clothing made of nylon or synthetic materials.
Those are five tips that can help you when camping / camping with children during the rainy season. No matter when you camp, when the plans are well-prepared and all the equipment and supplies are complete, it will surely be comfortable and safe.
