Is it true that the requirements to renew a driver's license must include vaccination?

To expedite the resolution of the Covid-19 pandemic, in recent months the government has increasingly promoted vaccination programs for all Indonesian citizens. In fact, now a vaccination certificate has become a mandatory requirement for various activities in public places, one of which is processing a driver's license (SIM). Is it true that the requirement to renew a SIM is to be vaccinated?
Is the Requirement to Renew a SIM to Be Vaccinated a Hoax or Not?
Some time ago, a public announcement emerged stating that one of the requirements to renew a SIM is to include a vaccination certificate. Although the intention is for the good of the community, many people feel burdened, especially those who have not been vaccinated. Moreover, the process of obtaining a SIM usually needs to be done quickly, leaving no time to seek vaccination first.
This announcement came from one of the police departments, but because it was spread on social media, many people believed that this announcement also applied throughout Indonesia. To prevent misunderstandings, the Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police finally explained that this is only a policy of the police department in certain areas and does not necessarily apply in all regions.
One of the police departments that issued this announcement is the Indragiri Hilir Police, Riau Province. They collaborated with the local government to create a policy for residents who want to process something at their police station to show proof of vaccination, including for obtaining a SIM and SKCK (Police Clearance Certificate). This was directly conveyed by the Indragiri Hilir Police Chief, AKBP Dian Setyawan.
In addition, there are also police departments in other areas that implement the same policy, namely the Kotawaringin Timur Police in Central Kalimantan Province. The policy of making vaccination certificates a requirement for processing SIM and SKCK seems to still be not final and may change depending on the results of vaccination implementation in the community.
Meanwhile, regarding the news about the requirement to renew a SIM to be vaccinated that applies throughout Indonesia, this is not true. The Head of the SIM Sub-Directorate of the Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police, Kombes Djati Utomo, stated that the news about the requirements for processing SIM has not been implemented nationally, and the policy depends on each region.
Furthermore, Djati also explained that this has not been enforced because many Indonesian citizens have not yet received vaccinations. However, it is not impossible that this policy will apply in the future, so the public is advised to get vaccinated as soon as possible. The public is also encouraged to continue implementing the 5M health protocols to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus in their surroundings.
