Mother's Day in Indonesia is Different from Other Countries? Here are the Reasons and Examples of Appropriate Greetings!

Mother's Day is a sacred commemoration for many people. In Indonesia, Mother's Day is celebrated every December 22. Friends must also congratulate their mothers, older sisters, and closest relatives on that day, right?
However, do you know that the commemoration of Mother's Day in Indonesia is not like in other countries? That the day is not aimed at the figure of a mother, but more towards empowering women in all fields?
Well, as knowledge, you can check out the following explanation about the history of how Mother's Day came about, the establishment of that date to be commemorated as a special day for mothers, and examples of touching messages for beloved women. Let's dive in!
A Brief History of the Women's Congress in Indonesia
Just like the story of Kartini who fought for women's educational rights to be equal to men, Indonesian women leaders also fought for women's rights in many other fields. One of them is the First Women's Congress held in Yogyakarta 92 years ago.
The congress took place on December 22, 1928, in line with the youth who declared their national spirit in October of the same year. The exact location was at the residence of Raden Tumenggung Joyodipoero. There were about 600 women from various organizations in this great congress.
The first Women's Congress, which was followed by the second and third Women's Congresses, had many goals for the welfare of women in various fields to be equal to men.
Thus, the origin of the commemoration on December 22 is not merely to congratulate women for being mothers, but more broadly, for their existence in society. Moreover, this congress was the spearhead of the women's movement in Indonesia.
Establishment of Mother's Day by the Government
Since 1928, the commemoration of December 22 has been recognized as a day for empowered women. Just as women always strive to be figures who also have the right to higher education, good job roles with fair wages, and to be valued as individuals.
Then, the government issued a Decree in 1959 with Number 316 establishing December 22 as Mother's Day. However, did you know that this Mother's Day is actually the Mother's Day of the Nation, which has a much broader meaning than the Mother's Day we usually celebrate?
Examples of Touching Messages for Beloved Women
Well, as explained above, with the commemoration of Mother's Day having a much broader meaning, can you make your Mother's Day wishes to your beloved women more "romantic"? Like the examples of messages below, for mothers, wives, and sisters.
1. “To my beloved mother, the woman who has given birth to and raised me with love... Happy Mother's Day. Today may be chosen as a reminder of how women in the past inspired thousands of other women to keep dreaming and standing tall. However, on other days, you remain the amazing woman in my life just as you once risked your life to bring me into this world.”
2. “Dear, happy Mother's Day. You are the most amazing figure. Thank you for always choosing to be by my side forever. Thank you for being so sincere and doing everything. I'm sorry I only become romantic on special days like December 22.”
3. “Sis, do you know? There are so many amazing women in this world and you are one of them. Awesome. Unmatched. If that's the case, how could I not be proud to be your sibling?”
Those are some facts about Mother's Day which is usually celebrated in Indonesia every December 22 each year. This commemoration is of course only applicable in Indonesia as each country has its own Mother's Day commemoration date.
For the global commemoration itself, it is not specifically listed as a day for a mother who has children and is a wife to someone. However, International Women's Day is celebrated every March 8, which usually involves many discussions about women's equality in various fields.
