JAKARTA (26/1): Several regions in Indonesia have entered the rainy season. Daily activities during the rainy season require specific preparations, from physical readiness due to the need for extra concentration, vehicle condition, to good driving techniques. Here are 3 safe and comfortable tips when driving in rainy conditions.

1. Self Preparation
   • Before driving, ensure your health condition is good, as it is the most important aspect of activities, especially when driving.
   • Keep an umbrella in the car, as the destination may not always have a canopy to protect you, thus shielding you from rain when getting out of the car.
   • Wear or bring warm clothing when driving. As a precaution, you can also provide spare footwear or sandals in the car.
2. Vehicle Preparation
   • Check the tire condition; if the tire tread is worn, it is advisable to replace it immediately. Good tire tread helps us avoid the risk of aquaplaning and slipping when it rains.
   • Check the condition of the wiper blades. This component is very important for clearing water, especially on the windshield, to maintain your visibility while driving. Check this component regularly and replace it with a new one at an authorized workshop if it becomes brittle and does not wipe cleanly.
   • Ensure all vehicle lights are functioning properly. This component will greatly assist in providing good visibility for you and other drivers.
3. While Driving
   • Turn on the lights during heavy rain, as visibility on the road is usually poor, so vehicle lights will help you and signal to surrounding drivers.
   • Maintain distance and speed with other vehicles to react to sudden maneuvers from other drivers, especially when avoiding puddles that can cause the car to aquaplane.
   • Do not turn on hazard lights during rain, as it can distract and hinder the visibility of other drivers, especially those behind you, which can reduce their sensitivity when slowing down, changing lanes, or turning.
   • If you must pass through a flooded road, do not panic, stay calm, use low gear and maintain stable RPM.
