Terms and Sanctions Applicable to Vehicle Restriction Policy in Jakarta
In order to tackle the traffic congestion issues occurring in Jakarta, the government has implemented odd-even regulations for motor vehicles.
After this policy was temporarily halted during the Corona virus pandemic, in November the odd-even routes began to be enforced again.
Applicable Routes
Since it was found effective in reducing the city's congestion levels, starting from September 9, 2019, the applicable routes will continue to expand. There are at least 25 routes or road segments that enforce this regulation.
The first route runs from Jl. Gunung Sahari to Salemba Raya and then turns onto Jl. Pramuka. The expanded road segments also include Pintu Besar Selatan, leading to Majapahit Street, or Tomang Raya Street.
This route connects two old routes stretching from Jl. Merdeka Barat to Jl. Jenderal Sudirman. Similarly, the route from S. Parman Street, towards the Semanggi intersection to Jl. Mt. Haryono.
Not only that, the expansion of the latest odd-even route in Jakarta also includes Sisingamangaraja Street up to the end of Fatmawati Raya Street.
This route expansion complements the old routes that were implemented during the trial phase. The old routes referred to are Jl. Hari Rasuna Said, DI. Panjaitan Street, and along Jl. Jend. A Yani.
Applicable Provisions
With the expansion reaching 25 routes or road segments, it is hoped that this traffic regulation can alleviate congestion on the capital's roads.
However, you should know that this policy only applies to private four-wheeled vehicles. This means motorcycles and 12 other types of vehicles are exempted.
Some vehicles that are exempt include public transport with yellow plates, electric motor vehicles, transportation modes for disabilities, emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, and traffic accident vehicles.
Vehicles of high institutions, vehicles with escorts, and transport of gas and oil fuel.

This is because the government has also enforced this policy from Monday to Friday.
The applicable times are from 6 to 10 AM, and then during rush hour from 4 to 9 PM.
To ensure compliance, local authorities are even ready to impose sanctions on violators of this policy. According to the DKI Jakarta Governor's Regulation, there are two types of sanctions that apply.
The first is a blue slip sanction in the form of a payment agreement for a fine of 500 thousand through BRI bank, in order to retrieve the confiscated driver's license and vehicle registration.
The second is a red slip sanction available for those who wish to appeal. For this sanction, you must undergo a trial process where the judge determines the amount of the fine to be paid.
You can choose the sanctions for the odd-even routes in Jakarta according to your preference. Although initially used for the mobility needs of athletes in the 2018 Asian Games, this policy is still seen as a solution to combat congestion.
Therefore, you must comply with the regulations that have been set when traveling from Monday to Friday. Use the provided routes to support comfort and safety while driving.
