Seven Route Options
There are many routes that can be chosen for the journey from Malang to Jogja, my friend. Approximately, there are seven travel routes from Malang to Jogja that you can study and choose which one is the most comfortable.
The first route is via Diyono. This route will then pass through Batu, Pujon, Kandangan, and then towards Perak Jombang which will then lead to Jalan Negara and enter the Bandar Toll Road. After the toll, you will exit at Kartosuro, Solo. Once in Solo, the journey to Jogja is only through regular roads and is easy to navigate.
The second route is through Malang, Singosari, Lawang, Pandaan, Sidoarjo, Mojokerto, Kertosono, Ngantuk, Ngawi, Sragen, Solo, then exit at the Kartosuro Toll and continue to Negara Solo towards Jogja. This journey is 80% via toll with a travel time of approximately 5 hours.
Next, you can take a route that is almost the same as the first route. However, from Kandangan, you will take the road to Pare and end up at the Brantas River then to Negara, Nganjuk, then Nganjuk Toll and break through to Putren Sukomoro and then take the route like the first route.

Do Not Take Non-Toll Routes at Night
The fourth route, you start your journey from Batu then to Pujon, Pare, Nganjuk, Caruban, Ngawi, Sragen, Solo taking the direction to Solo Baru and turn to Delanggu Klaten, then to Jogja. This route is quite long as it takes about 10 hours.
The fifth route is almost the same as the fourth route, except from Caruban, you must turn to Madiun not Ngawi then to Magetan, Sarangan, Tawangmangu, Karanganyar, Solo, and Jogja.
For another route, you can choose Kepanjen, Blitar, Tulungagung, Trenggalek, Ponorogo through Purwantoro towards Ngadirejo, then Wonogiri, and then Jogja.
The last route option is through Kepanjen, Blitar, Tulungagung, Trenggalek, Pacitan, Pracimantoro, Gunung Kidul, then Jogja.
To choose the most comfortable route, it can be adjusted to your familiarity with the terrain. If you have never traveled far by driving yourself, it is better to have a toll route with an estimated travel time that can be predicted.
Using the toll road does incur more costs, but it provides higher security. Especially when you are traveling at night. For non-toll routes, it can be pitch dark at night and the roads usually wind and are prone to landslides.
Stop in Solo for Culinary Delights
One of the benefits of choosing the travel route from Malang to Jogja via Solo is that you can stop for culinary delights. Solo, known as a city with delicious and affordable food, is certainly tempting to visit. Especially when tired after a long drive.
Stopping at a rest area is certainly common, especially at gas stations. Well, it's better to stop at a restaurant in Solo and taste its specialties, such as the fresh Solo salad. The spicy, sweet, and sour flavors will certainly keep you awake when feeling drowsy while driving.
When planning to drive far, don't forget to check the condition of your vehicle, my friend. Don't let your car break down on the road and hinder your journey.
