Daihatsu Officially Launches Its First Hybrid Car in Indonesia Rocky e-Smart Hybrid at GIIAS 2025 event

(TANGERANG, July 24, 2025): Daihatsu officially launched its first Hybrid car in Indonesia, the Rocky e-Smart Hybrid, on July 24, 2025, at the GIIAS (GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show) held at ICE BSD City, Tangerang. This launch marks a new milestone for Daihatsu in Indonesia, presenting a choice of vehicles equipped with the latest technology and eco-friendly features.

 

As its name suggests, the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid utilizes the e-Smart Hybrid System, where 'e' stands for electrification and 'smart' for efficiency. This system was independently developed by Daihatsu and has proven its quality since its initial launch in Japan in 2021.

 

This vehicle is powered entirely by an electric motor, with the gasoline engine functioning solely as a generator to charge the battery. This makes the Rocky Hybrid the only vehicle in its class to offer a "Real Series Hybrid" driving experience, truly embodying the "Believe in Real" spirit.

 

The Rocky Hybrid comes with various advantages such as excellent fuel efficiency, low emissions, responsive acceleration, advanced safety, and a fun drive sensation experience that brings joy to its users.

 

The Rocky Hybrid is equipped with a 1,200 cc WA-VEX gasoline engine integrated with a 177.6-volt Hybrid battery and a dedicated hybrid Transaxle transmission. The electric motor of the Rocky Hybrid can produce a maximum power of 106 PS and a maximum torque of 170 Newton meters, making it the car with the largest torque in its class and highly responsive acceleration. The battery in the Rocky Hybrid has a capacity of 0.74 kWh, which is 6 times larger than other cars in its class, and even comparable to current medium hybrid SUVs.

 

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Rocky Hybrid stands out as the best in its class, achieving 28 KM/L under the WLTC (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle) testing mode. It can even reach up to 34.8 KM/L based on the JC08 (Japan Cycle 08) testing method, which is a fuel efficiency test in Japan. Besides having best-in-class fuel efficiency, the Rocky Hybrid also boasts low emissions, producing only 83 grams of CO2/km, which demonstrates Daihatsu's commitment to supporting Carbon Neutral policies in Indonesia.

 

The Rocky Hybrid also features responsive acceleration, capable of reaching 0-100 KM/hour in approximately 10 seconds, making it the fastest in its class.

 

On the exterior, the Rocky Hybrid has a compact body with a powerful and aggressive design. The Daihatsu logo with a blue e-Smart Hybrid emblem serves as its distinctive Hybrid identity. The honeycomb grille design provides a bold and aerodynamic appearance. With 16-inch diameter wheels and a ground clearance of 185 mm, the Rocky Hybrid remains safe traversing various road conditions. The car is also equipped with super UV and Infrared Cut windshield glass, which helps keep the cabin cool and comfortable.

 

In terms of the interior, the Rocky Hybrid delivers a Fun Drive Sensation with various new features, a modern dashboard display, and a spacious and quiet cabin, all designed to make journeys more comfortable for its users. This car is equipped with a 7" TFT Digital Meter Combination featuring an attractive, sporty design and comprehensive information display. The AC (Air Conditioner) panel is designed with a modern aesthetic and complete features, such as Auto AC which can automatically regulate fan speed, and adjustable AC direction to ensure cabin temperature distributes evenly and quickly. Stagger Alarm serves as a rest reminder, detecting unstable driving patterns caused by fatigue. Auto High Beam automatically adjusts high beams and optimizes road illumination while detecting oncoming vehicles.
