How Much Does It Cost to Replace a Car Clutch Pad? 

The estimated cost of replacing a car clutch pad certainly depends on the type, specifications, and brand of the car used. 

For example: A set of clutch pads for a Daihatsu Ayla is priced at Rp850,000. Meanwhile, for the Xenia 1.0 L type, a set of clutch pads is priced in the range of Rp1,300,000 to Rp1,350,000. For the Terios type, it is priced starting from Rp1,600,000.

As for the cost of installing the clutch pads, it depends on the workshop you choose. For official workshops partnered with car manufacturers, the installation cost is usually priced from Rp800,000 to below Rp1,000,000. Meanwhile, for workshops that are not partnered with car manufacturers, the rates usually start from Rp350,000 to Rp500,000.

How to Replace a Clutch Pad 

For those of you who want to replace the clutch pad independently, you need to pay attention to the following steps. 

1. Prepare new components and repair tools

The first step is to prepare a new set of clutch pads along with the tools needed for the replacement. The tools you need to prepare are as follows. 

  • Jack stand
  • Jack
  • 1 set of shock keys
  • Torque wrench
  • Flathead and Phillips screwdriver
  • 1 set of ring keys
  • Ratchet
  • Straightener
  • Brush
  • Caliper
  • Hammer
  • Cloth
  • Compressor
  • Sandpaper

2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable

The second step is to disconnect the negative cable from the car battery to ensure safety while replacing the brake pads. 

3. Jack up the car

The third step is to install the jack and jack stand when lifting the car. Don't forget to place a block on top of the jack stand to prevent the car engine from falling when removing the transmission case.

4. Remove the clutch pad components

The next step is to start the process of removing the clutch pad components. The detailed steps are as follows. 

  • Use pliers to remove the olor (clutch) part of the transmission. Next, remove the return spring of the lever fork using a flathead screwdriver to detach the olor connector.
  • Remove the socket part on the transmission leg.
  • Remove the starter motor by unscrewing the two bolts attached to that component with a 14 mm ring key.
  • Use that ring key to remove the propeller shaft from the transmission case. 
  • Then drain the oil completely. 
  • Then place the detached transmission case into the washing basin.
  • After that, remove the clutch housing. 

5. The process of replacing and installing the clutch

After you have removed the old clutch pads, you can proceed to the process of replacing them with new clutch pads. The steps are as follows.

  • Lubricate the transmission shaft and release bearing with grease before installing the clutch pads. 
  • Make sure the convex part of the clutch pad (flywheel) faces the clutch cover. 
  • Then install the clutch pads and housing on the force wheel. Use a lubricant rod during installation to facilitate the process of installing the transmission shaft later on. 
  • Next, perform the installation sequentially starting from the transmission case to the installation of the starter motor. 
  • After everything is installed, lower the car and conduct a test. Usually, a proper installation can make the car accelerate faster, and the transmission shifts smoothly.
