How to Fix a Broken Car Starter Dynamo Switch

One of the very important components in a car's starter system is the starter motor. If this part has problems or is damaged, you certainly cannot start the car engine easily.

Causes of Starter Motor Damage

The car starter motor itself actually has the function of turning the engine for the first time, by moving the engine shaft through the flywheel. 

The causes of starter motor damage can vary, depending on the problems that occur with the motor itself. Common issues with the motor include weak rotation when starting.

This weak engine rotation occurs due to a weak or dead car battery, loose or disconnected cable connections on the starter motor, and can also be caused by mechanical problems. 

Other common problems with the motor include the motor continuously spinning, the starter motor being dead and the engine not turning, and sometimes the motor spins but the engine won't start.

If you know the causes of these problems, then the way to fix the car starter motor switch can be done correctly. 

For a dead motor, the cause is not much different from the motor rotation being too weak. Meanwhile, a spinning starter motor but the engine not starting is caused by damage to the overrunning clutch.

How to Fix a Problematic Starter Motor

The first thing you can do to fix the starter motor is to check the car battery terminal. Make sure that this part is not loose or disconnected, at both the positive and negative terminals. 

However, if there are no loose, dirty, or broken cables, then you need to fix the car battery as this component may be dead.

If the battery part is confirmed to be in good condition, then the next way to fix the car starter motor switch is to check the condition of the car battery cables. Before inspecting the cables, it is advisable to check the battery voltage first with a multitester. 

If everything is still in good condition, it may be the starter motor that needs to be replaced. Next, you can also check the automatic socket, which is located on the starter motor. 

Recheck the condition of this automatic cable, make sure that the cable is in good condition. Also, ensure that the fuse and the starter relay are in good condition, if you hear a clicking sound when turning the ignition key to the start position.

Finally, you can also try jump-starting the car battery as one way to fix the starter motor switch. Because basically, the motor can spin if there is enough electrical current in the car battery. So if the electrical current is low, you can jump-start the car battery to make the motor spin.
