Menghitung Kapasitas Mesin Mobil

The engine capacity of a car greatly determines the car's performance as it affects the power and torque produced. In the automotive world, the engine capacity of a car is often written with the term CC (Cubic Centimeter). The larger the engine capacity of a car, the higher the performance it produces.

Therefore, every prospective car buyer must pay attention to this aspect. To determine the engine capacity that fits your needs, it is advisable to first understand how to calculate car engine capacity. For more details, please refer to the following review.

How to Calculate Car Engine Capacity

In calculating the engine capacity of a car, you need to understand two important formulas: the formula for calculating the volume of a cylinder and the formula for calculating the combustion chamber. The complete formulas are as follows.

1. Formula for calculating the volume of a cylinder

For example, if a car has a cylinder radius of 6 cm and a cylinder length of 15 cm, to find out the cylinder volume capacity of that car, you can use the following calculation formula.

Formula: Phi x (r x r) x t

Description:

Phi: the ratio of the circumference of the circle to the diameter of that circle

r : cylinder radius

t: height or length of the cylinder

Example: 3.14 x (6x6) x 15 = 1,695.6 cc.

2. Formula for calculating combustion volume

In addition to using the formula for calculating the volume of a cylinder, to calculate the engine capacity of a car, you can also use the formula for calculating combustion volume as follows.

For example, if a car has a cylinder radius of 6 cm and a piston height (L) of 15 cm, to find out the combustion chamber volume, you need to know the diameter of the cylinder first. To find the diameter of the cylinder, simply multiply the radius by two. If the cylinder radius is 6 cm, then the cylinder diameter is 12.

Formula: Phi : 4 x (diameter x diameter) x piston height (L)

Example: 3.14/4 x (12x12) x 15 = 1,695.6 cc.

3. Formula for calculating combustion chamber

To determine the capacity of the combustion chamber in the engine, you need to know the calculation formula for the combustion chamber as follows.

Formula: Phi : 4 x (D x D) x (L x L)

Description:

Phi: the ratio of the circumference of the circle to the diameter of that circle

D: Bore (the original diameter of the combustion chamber)

L : Stroke (the length of the piston stroke)

Since D and L have units in millimeters (mm), it is advisable to convert the millimeter (mm) units to centimeter (cm) units before calculating using the formula.

Example:

A 2023 Daihatsu Terios with a 2NR-VE Euro IV DOHC Dual VVT-i engine type has a bore specification of 72.5 mm and a stroke of 90.6 mm, so to find out the engine capacity of the car, you can use the following calculation formula.

3.14/4 x (7.25 x 7.25) x 9.06 = 373.81 cc.

The above value is the volume of one combustion chamber or one cylinder. Meanwhile, the 2023 Daihatsu Terios has four cylinders. Therefore, to find out the total engine capacity of the car, you can multiply the result above by 4, so 373.81 x 4 = 1,495.24 cc.
