The negative effects of the habit of delaying oil changes in cars must be known by you. If not, it will eventually have a detrimental impact on the car's performance. Poor car performance will make you uncomfortable while driving.

Engine oil is one of the car components in the form of a thick liquid, which serves to lubricate the engine and cool it from combustion inside the cylinder.

Engine oil must be changed when your car has reached a distance of 10,000 km or every 6 months. If you do not change it within that distance, it is feared to affect other engine components.

Here is an explanation of the negative effects of the habit of delaying oil changes in cars, which you need to know before you regret it.

What Are the Negative Effects of the Habit of Delaying Oil Changes in Cars?

As a car owner, your duty is to maintain and care for it. One of the car components that must be maintained is the engine oil. After all, oil is the 'lifeblood' for car engines to work effectively.

If not maintained, your car may experience negative effects such as the following.

1.      Fuel Inefficiency

Have you ever experienced sudden fuel inefficiency? It could be the effect of delaying an engine oil change. This is caused by increased friction in the engine, making the pull heavier. The engine will also work harder than usual. This factor causes more fuel to be consumed by the engine.

2.      Rough Engine Noise

When you start the car engine, it will sound rough. The cause is that the engine oil has become thin, so it cannot dampen the engine's friction. Therefore, to ensure the car engine is well-lubricated, immediately change the oil to a new one.

3.      Engine Overheating

Oil that is not changed regularly causes the car engine to overheat quickly, a condition also known as overheating. Overheating occurs because the oil, which functions as a coolant, does not work optimally. If left unchecked, it can lead to fatal consequences, damaging the entire car engine.

4.      Decreased Engine Performance

Oil is a very important component for the entire car engine. Engine oil that is rarely changed will become thin and mixed with various dirt.

This makes the engine prone to damage, especially the piston and cylinder, as both have to work harder than usual. If this happens, the engine will leave scratches, rust, and even cause engine fires.

5.      Engine Sludge

Friction caused by oil that is not changed can create dirt in the form of sludge. This sludge will mix with the oil, causing the engine oil to turn black. If the sludge has stuck for too long, it will be difficult to clean.

6.      Financial Loss

If engine damage has spread, you will need to repair it by replacing engine components with new ones. In this case, you will definitely need a significant amount of money. At least, prepare hundreds to millions of rupiah for the repairs.

One way to check the condition of the oil is to use a dipstick. The method is to dip the dipstick into the engine oil compartment.

If the oil volume is above the minimum mark and its color is still bright, it means the oil is still in normal condition.

Whereas if the oil volume is below the minimum and is dark in color, you must immediately change it at a workshop or do the oil change yourself.

Make sure you always change the engine oil regularly at least every 6 months, so you are not disturbed by the negative effects of the habit of delaying oil changes in cars mentioned above.
