Function and How to Use Car Flashers

As a motor vehicle user, you are certainly familiar with the turn signal part that is one of its components.

This turn signal functions as an indicator when the vehicle is about to turn. But did you know that this turn signal system is a function of the car's flasher? Check the explanation below.

The Importance of Car Flasher Function

When driving on the road, you will occasionally turn right or left. To prevent accidents, you need to inform drivers in front and behind you. The way to inform other drivers is by using the turn signal or flasher lights.

When you are about to turn right, the right turn signal must be turned on. Conversely, if you are about to turn left, then the left flasher must be turned on.

Flasher in cars is a component within the vehicle that regulates the blinking of the turn signals. The function of the car flasher is to supply electrical current to the lights intermittently, so that the turn signal lights can be seen blinking.

Thus, other drivers on the road can know whether you are going to turn right or left. So other drivers can give you space, and accidents can be avoided effectively.

How to Use Car Flasher

Flasher in cars has several supporting components such as output current, resistor, contact point, elco, or capacitor, winding 1, winding 2, and battery. The working principle itself has several types, namely transistor type, contact point type, and capacitor type.

For the capacitor type, the flasher light can blink automatically because of the electromagnet that is automatically regulated by the capacitor.

In general, the working principle of the car flasher as a regulator of the turn signal blinking is that when the contact point is positioned ON, the electric current will flow through the contact point and coil.

Thus, the electric current will fill the capacitor, where at the same time the iron core in coil 1 will become a magnet and then attract the contact point.

This will cause the contact point to open, and the flasher light will turn off. When contact point P remains open, capacitor C starts to release its charge.

Thus, the charge in the capacitor decreases, and then contact point P closes due to spring pressure. After contact point P closes, the current then returns to coils L1 and L2.

Next, the capacitor will recharge, as the amount of electric current in coil L2 decreases. The movement of coil L1 causes contact point P to open, so the turn signals F1 and F1’ and pilot light PL turn off.

The relay in this electrical circuit makes the turn signal appear to blink. That is how to use or how the function of the car flasher works.

The presence of the turn signal part in vehicles is indeed very useful, so that accidents between drivers on the road can be avoided.

If the flasher is damaged, then the coil will not be able to create a relay, so the turn signal will not blink when the lever is turned on. Therefore, maintenance of this component in the car is very important to carry out.
