Function of Car AC Thermostat and How to Install It
The car AC thermostat is one of the components that you can find inside the car. Of course, there is a specific function of this component, to find out, here are the functions and information about how to install a car AC thermostat.
Function of the Car AC Thermostat
There are various components in the car, one of which is the AC thermostat. Well, one of the functions of this component is to maintain the engine temperature. There are various parts in the engine that work quickly. Because of this, temperature increases can occur in the engine.
Increased temperature greatly affects engine performance. Rising temperatures can lead to overheating and radiator water leaks. When the temperature reaches 85 to 90 degrees Celsius, the thermostat will automatically open again and allow coolant to flow, thus cooling through the radiator.
Thus, the thermostat is certainly one of the very important components. Therefore, if damage occurs, it is best to repair it immediately or replace it with a new one.
Signs of a Damaged AC Thermostat
As a car owner, it is essential to conduct regular checks on your vehicle. If you have the skills, there’s nothing wrong with checking your car's condition yourself. The signs of a damaged thermostat are as follows.
Temperature Control Not Functioning
One of the common problems with the thermostat is that the temperature control does not function optimally, which is an indication of damage to the thermostat.
As explained earlier, if this component functions to regulate the engine temperature to remain ideal so that the engine can work optimally. Damage or even fire in the engine can occur if the thermostat is damaged.
Fuel Runs Out Quickly
The next sign is that fuel seems to run out quickly. Yes, if your car's fuel feels like it runs out quickly or is wasteful, then try checking the AC thermostat.
Fuel running out quickly can be caused by unstable engine temperatures due to the thermostat not functioning optimally.
Temperature Inside the Car Increases
If the car feels hot, it could also be due to damage to the thermostat. The thermostat can get stuck when the temperature reaches 90 degrees Celsius. This causes air circulation to be obstructed, leading to an increase in temperature inside the vehicle.
How to Install a Car AC Thermostat
Considering the importance of this component, it is necessary to replace the thermostat if damage occurs to this component. You can install this component yourself. Here’s how to install it.
- First, find access to the thermostat area. Please use gloves while doing this.
- To find the channel, open the car hood, look for the radiator to find the thermostat hose, the hose channel is at the thermostat cover.
- Next, drain the engine coolant, then disconnect the water outlet or the upper rubber hose.
- Remove the thermostat cover and take it out to replace it with a new one.
- Please install a new gasket on the thermostat, align the jiggle valve.
- Shift the jiggle valve to the 10-degree position, then insert it into the channel to reinstall the water outlet or upper rubber hose.
There are several signs of a damaged car AC thermostat, such as causing fuel to run out quickly. If there are indications of damage, it can be replaced immediately. If you feel unsure about installing it yourself for fear of causing more severe damage, it’s a good idea to take your car to an official Daihatsu workshop.
