The beam of light from the fog lamp is considered capable of helping the driver's visibility in penetrating heavy rain and thick fog. This will certainly minimize the occurrence of accidents, thus fog lamps can enhance safety and comfort while driving. There are several types of fog lamps categorized based on the color of the light emitted and the technology used in the lamp.

Types of Fog Lamps Based on the Color of Light Emitted

Fog lamps come in various types. One of them is based on the color of the light emitted. There are fog lamps that emit white light, and there are also those that emit yellow light. Both certainly have their own advantages and disadvantages.

1. Fog Lamps that Emit White Light

White lamps do have a stronger beam. However, when faced with foggy conditions, heavy rain, or snowy areas, white light is more difficult for human visibility to accept, making it blinding.

2. Fog Lamps that Emit Yellow Light

Yellow lamps are more easily accepted by the human eye, making them very useful for the visibility of drivers, especially when passing through foggy, heavy rain, or snowy terrain.

Types of Fog Lamps Based on the Technology Used

Based on the technology used, fog lamps have two types of bulbs. There are halogen-filled bulbs. There are also fog lamps that use LED technology. Both certainly have their own advantages and disadvantages.

1. Halogen-Filled Bulb Fog Lamps

Halogen-filled bulb fog lamps will emit yellow light that can generate heat up to 3,000 Kelvin and can penetrate fog and heavy rain. Using halogen bulbs will also provide an advantage in terms of saving purchase costs because they are cheaper.

The penetration power of halogen-filled bulb fog lamps is also stronger. Unfortunately, bulb lamps tend to heat up quickly, making them more energy-consuming. The lifespan of this type of fog lamp can reach 350 hours. However, the length of usage is also influenced by the type of halogen fog lamp chosen, as different types use different technologies.

This type of fog lamp has two types. First, the H11 type. This type is generally used as a headlamp that uses one bulb for one purpose. The housing of the fog lamp is made from a material that is quite strong and heat-resistant. The power of the lamp used is also quite large, around 55 watts, while the light output reaches 1,350 lumens with a voltage source of 12 volts.

The second type is H16. This type is more favored as a fog lamp and has a lamp power of 19 watts. The light strength produced can reach 500 lumens with a voltage of 12 volts. Choosing fog lamps of this type uses a mica housing as the lens. Because the heat generated is not too high, the mica material used will not melt.

2. LED Fog Lamps

In addition to halogen-filled bulbs, you can also choose LED fog lamps. LED fog lamps will provide high brightness and are more energy-efficient. Their durability is also longer than halogen bulbs, with a lifespan of up to 500 hours. However, they are more expensive than halogen bulbs.
