Power window is a feature in cars that controls the opening and closing of window glass. The presence of power windows is considered very helpful because without turning a lever on the car door, the window glass can automatically open and close.
Most modern cars are equipped with power window features. However, older cars and even some newer models with standard features may still lack power windows. If you want to install power windows in your beloved car, one question that often arises is how much do power windows cost today?
Before going further into the price of power windows, it wouldn't hurt for you to first understand how power windows work. Generally, power windows rely on a mechatronic system (mechanical and electronic) installed on the door trim.
The mechanism of power windows can be said to be similar to manual window glass that uses a lever. However, the pivot point of the lever is connected to the shaft of an electric motor that, when activated, makes the system work to raise and lower the window glass according to the command.
Power Window Components
Power windows consist of several interconnected electrical components. There are several components that you need to know.
1. Driver power window motor, which is the actuator for the window glass on the driver's side.
2. Passenger power window motor, which is located on the left door window or passenger door.
3. Driver power window switch and motor, which is the main switch located on the driver's side that functions as the main control.
4. Passenger power window switch and motor, which is a switch on the driver's side. This switch can only control the power window on the driver's side.
The above circuit represents the power window scheme for a four-door car. In simple terms, there are four switches and four motors located on each car door.
How Power Windows Work
Power windows can function if there is an electric current. When the ignition key is turned to the ON position, the electric current from the battery will flow to the fuse and then to each relay that is installed on the power window module in each door.
The main control is located on the driver's door, and the others can only lower or raise the window glass from the switch on that door.
The electric current that flows is then converted into motion energy in the power window motor so that the window glass can go up and down.
Power Window Prices
Power windows are usually priced per set. There are packages for two doors up to four doors. The prices vary depending on the type of car. It is safest to choose universal power windows, meaning these power windows are compatible with all types of cars.
