Causes of Unstable Car Electrical System

Car electrical systems that are unstable are one of the disruptions in the electrical current system that trigger malfunctions in the car's electronic components. The signs of this disruption are quite easy to recognize, such as the intensity of lights and lamps being inconsistent or flickering, making it difficult for the engine to start.

This can happen because the power source from the battery is disrupted. This means that the internal capability of the battery, which is responsible for controlling the electrical energy to the car's components, is no longer optimal.

When experiencing this, here are three parts that need to be checked. The possible causes can come from these three things.

1. Weak car battery

The function of the battery is to store and supply electrical current according to the needs of the car components. When the battery condition starts to weaken or is unstable, the required voltage becomes less than ideal, resulting in functional disruptions in components that need electrical flow while operating.

Typically, a car battery has a lifespan of about two years, depending on the intensity of use and the type of car. If you feel that your battery is starting to weaken, it is better to replace it with a new one. Additionally, pay attention to the positive-negative terminals. It could be that the position is loose, causing the car's electrical system to be unstable.

For symptoms of the car engine being hard to start, it indeed requires a significant amount of electrical voltage. It is not surprising that this symptom occurs when the car's electrical system starts to become unstable.

2. Damaged alternator

Another cause of unstable car electrical systems is a damaged alternator. The function of the alternator is actually to generate electrical energy.

If its function is damaged, this condition causes power consumption to exceed the required usage. The impact can cause the battery to drain quickly.

Signs of a damaged alternator can be seen from the battery indicator light that is on. This light, which is generally located on the car's dashboard, indicates that something is wrong with the dynamo ampere. If this light is on and there are no issues with the battery, it means the damage is occurring in the alternator.

Then there is the smell of burning. This could be due to friction from a belt that is not properly installed. If a burning smell is coming from the alternator, take the car to the nearest workshop immediately.

Another sign of a damaged alternator is a squeaking sound from the engine compartment, indicating that the pulley position is misaligned, causing the alternator belt to twist.

3. Check the connecting cables

Unstable electrical current can be caused by cables that are not tight enough or are no longer functioning properly. This can trigger the electrical current not to flow optimally.

Pay attention to the cables connecting the battery to other components. As we know, the condition of the cables also has a lifespan, so if they are damaged or look worn out, it is better to replace them with new ones.

4. Voltage regulator

This component is quite dangerous if it gets damaged. The function of this device is to maintain voltage and electrical stability. If its function is damaged, the risk could trigger a fire due to the lack of a current limiter flowing through.

Even devices or accessories in the car that use electricity can experience overload, melt, or even explode. The symptoms of this problem are actually quite easy to recognize, namely that the car lights burn out quickly.

Furthermore, the supply of fluctuating electrical current should be repaired quickly to avoid damaging other car components. The easiest way to fix it is to repair the damaged components and install a voltage regulator.

However, it is important to remember that the replacement of all electrical components in the car must be adjusted to the type of car. Because each car has different electrical characteristics.
