Vital Sensors That Can Affect Fuel Efficiency

Sensor Vital Yang Dapat Mempengaruhi Efisiensi BBM

JAKARTA, MARCH 2025, Modern vehicles today are equipped with various types of sensors that function to ensure efficiency, safety, and optimal performance. Car sensors play a crucial role in optimizing fuel consumption, as their task is to collect data about various engine conditions.

This allows the ECU (Electric Control Unit) to adjust the fuel supply. Therefore, Daihatsu friends must know the vital sensors in the vehicle, especially related to fuel efficiency. As quoted on the mechanics.fb page.

Oxygen Sensor (O2) Air-Fuel Mixture Adjuster

The Oxygen Sensor measures the oxygen content in the exhaust gases, which then informs the engine control unit (ECU) to adjust the air-fuel mixture. An accurate O2 sensor ensures the engine operates at an optimal air-fuel ratio, thus maximizing fuel efficiency.

If the O2 sensor is damaged or problematic, fuel savings decrease, engine RPM becomes erratic, and acceleration is poor. Usually, the check engine light on the speedometer panel will illuminate.

MAF Sensor Air Intake Measurement

The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor measures the amount of air entering the combustion chamber. The ECU uses data from the MAF sensor to determine the correct amount of fuel to inject.

If the MAF sensor does not function properly, it can lead to an incorrect air-fuel mixture. This results in reduced fuel efficiency, poor engine performance, engine stalling, and potential engine damage. This issue is also indicated by the appearance of a warning light.

TPS Sensor Air Supply Control

The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) measures the position of the throttle plate in the Throttle Body, with the aim of controlling the amount of air entering the combustion chamber. The TPS helps the ECU determine the timing and duration of fuel injection.

If this device is damaged, it can cause the engine to operate inefficiently, resulting in increased fuel consumption. Signs include decreased fuel savings, poor engine performance, and sudden engine stalling.

CPS Sensor Crankshaft Rotation Speed Measurement

The CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor) measures the rotation speed of the crankshaft to determine the engine RPM. The CPS, which is also connected to the ECU, is crucial for determining accurate fuel injection timing.

Therefore, if this sensor has issues, it can cause the engine to not start properly, leading to reduced fuel efficiency and increased emissions. Signs of problems usually include rough engine RPM, misfires, and the engine indicator light illuminating.
