Buying a used car certainly requires you to set aside money and time to change the owner's name on the necessary documents. Not only the vehicle registration certificate (STNK), but you also need to create the vehicle ownership certificate (BPKB) with the new owner's name. The requirements and procedures for changing the name of a car are often not widely known. Let's check the review here!

Requirements for Changing Name on Vehicle Documents

The requirements that must be met when changing the owner's name on the vehicle registration certificate (STNK) are the original STNK and its photocopy. Both the new owner's ID cards in original and photocopy, as well as the original BPKB and its photocopy.

Don't forget to include the purchase receipt of the car with a stamp and the photocopy of the vehicle purchase invoice along with the original.

You also need to bring other documents such as a photocopy of the STNK with the new owner's name for the BPKB name change application. In addition, include a photocopy of the new owner's ID card and a photocopy of the previous BPKB. Also, attach proof of vehicle purchase complete with a stamp and the results of the physical check of your four-wheeled vehicle.

Procedure for Changing Name on STNK

For changing the name on the STNK, you need to go to the Samsat to handle all the processes. The first step in changing the name of the car is that you must queue for a physical check of the vehicle and go to the counter for the physical verification of the car.

Once you receive the documents or the results of the physical check of the car, you must pay the validation fee at the available counter.

Don't forget to photocopy the proof because it will be needed later to change the name on the BPKB. After that, you must go to the name change counter to fill out the required form. Once the form is submitted to the officer, you just have to wait for a call to pay the name mutation registration fee.

After payment is made, the vehicle owner will receive a schedule for picking up the STNK. You can collect the new STNK at the Samsat on the specified date.

When picking it up, the applicant must pay the tax at a special counter and wait for the name change process to be completed until the new STNK is in hand.

Procedure for Changing Name on BPKB

The process of changing the name on the BPKB can be done once you have the new STNK. The cost of changing the name on this document varies depending on the ownership of the vehicle.

In addition to preparing the cost, you also need to prepare the required documents from the STNK to the complete purchase proof in the form of a stamped receipt.

After that, the applicant must fill out the form to change the name on the BPKB at the police headquarters (Polda). Then you also need to pay the fee for changing the name at the bank counter and will receive a BPKB BNN sticker.

This sticker can be affixed to the registration form that contains complete data according to the owned vehicle.

Once the data to be included is complete, you can submit the form to the designated officer. Each applicant will receive a time or schedule for picking up the new BPKB at the relevant Polda.

The requirements you need to bring when picking up the BPKB are the original ID card of the new owner of the four-wheeled vehicle and the proof of collection that has been received.

Cost of Changing Name on a Car

If you buy a used vehicle, the name listed on the necessary documents is the name of the previous owner. Therefore, many people want to change the name to the new owner.

Checking the cost of changing the name of the car online can be one effective way for those who have never done a name change for vehicle documents.

Each region implements different procedures, and the costs set are not the same. This online check becomes one way for you to prepare funds according to the charges.

The costs imposed on the applicants consist of two types, namely the tax fee for processing the procedure and the non-tax fees that are not listed on the STNK.

The costs charged to the applicants include motor vehicle tax and there is a progressive tax if owning more than one car. The fee for changing the name is 2/3 of the vehicle tax.

Don't forget the SWDKLLJ fee set by the government, which is 143 thousand rupiah. The administrative fee for STNK is 75 thousand rupiah and the administrative fee for the Motor Vehicle Sign.

In addition to these costs, applicants still have to pay non-tax fees that are not listed on the STNK. You will be charged a fee for the physical check of the vehicle of around 30 thousand rupiah. Meanwhile, the fee for changing the name on the STNK is around 30 thousand rupiah. The fee for changing the name on the BPKB charged to the applicant is around 100 thousand rupiah for car types.

The used car you own must be changed to the new owner's name, making the process for paying annual taxes easier.

There are several specific requirements that must be prepared for changing the name on the STNK and BPKB. In addition, the applicant must also prepare specific costs to carry out the procedure at the Samsat and Polda.
