Is it safe to stick the MyPertamina QR Code sticker on the car tank cap? Here is Pertamina's explanation.
JAKARTA, NOVEMBER 2024, Purchasing subsidized fuel oil (BBM) such as Pertalite and Solar at Public Fuel Filling Stations (SPBU) now requires showing the MyPertamina QR Code. This special code issued by Pertamina, which is downloaded through the app on consumers' phones, must be shown every time they want to refuel.
However, because it is considered ineffective due to the need to open and close the app, some consumers print the code in the form of stickers. The MyPertamina barcode is attached to the fuel filler cap. This raises the question of whether it is unsafe?
Placing QR Code Stickers Behind the Fuel Tank Cap is Still Safe
Quoted from Kompas.com, Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina Patra, Niaga Heppy Wulansari, stated that placing QR code stickers behind the car's fuel cap is safe to do.
"The QR code used as a requirement for purchasing subsidized fuel is a static QR code. Static QR codes are relatively safer in terms of safety because of their fixed nature and do not require a connection," she said.
The QR Code only serves as access to information or to conduct transactions that are not directly related to critical safety systems or processes at the SPBU.

Placement of QR Code on the Car Body is Prone to Misuse
Although placing a QR Code sticker behind the fuel tank cap is relatively safe, Heppy still does not recommend placing stickers in that area. She urges consumers to protect the QR code of their vehicles to prevent misuse.
Moreover, placing the QR code on the car body can easily be misused by irresponsible individuals. This also poses a risk to data privacy and misuse of the QR code data.
"We do not recommend placing the QR code either on the car tank or in other locations on the car body," Heppy concluded.
