Not everyone who drives a car enjoys their journey. This is very likely, especially for passengers who are prone to motion sickness, commonly referred to as car sickness. Therefore, it is important to understand tips for driving a car so that passengers do not feel nauseous right now.

4 Tips for Driving a Car to Prevent Passenger Nausea

Many people employ various methods to minimize the nausea experienced during car journeys. These range from taking anti-nausea medication to placing stones on the belly button. However, did you know that you can actually take precautions while driving to prevent passengers from getting car sick?

For more detailed information, check out our brief reviews below.

1. The Right Shifting Moment

The first tip to anticipate passenger nausea during a trip is to shift gears (in a manual transmission) at the right moment. To ensure the car runs smoothly and comfortably, it is recommended to shift at an RPM of 2000 to 2500 only.

Proper gear shifting will indirectly impact the passengers. This is because nausea while driving often occurs due to vehicle dynamics such as jolts that arise while driving and the terrain you are traversing. With the right shifting, those vehicle dynamics can be managed well.

2. Pay Attention to Braking Frequency

Proper braking can certainly minimize the chances of passengers feeling nauseous even during long drives. In this case, avoid braking with a sudden stomp as it will only make passengers feel more nauseous. Instead, you should brake gently and gradually to avoid triggering sudden braking movements.

3. Check the Condition of Winding Roads

Road conditions that are not always good, such as winding or curvy roads, often cause passengers to experience nausea during the trip. The best prevention you can do is to anticipate what the upcoming turns will be like while reducing the vehicle's speed or decelerating before the turn.

4. Maintain Distance from Other Cars

Lastly, maintain a distance from other cars. Why does this matter? The main reason is to avoid sudden acceleration or deceleration. A simple way to do this is to keep a distance of 3-4 seconds from the vehicle in front of you to make passengers comfortable and not feel pressured.

This count of seconds is different from the usual counting. The difference lies in the way of counting, such as one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three, one thousand four, and so on. By maintaining this distance, passengers will not be startled, thus preventing the onset of nausea that could lead to unexpected car sickness.

These are some things you need to know about tips for driving a car to prevent passenger nausea starting from finding the right shifting moment, paying attention to braking frequency, being cautious of winding road conditions, and of course, maintaining distance from other cars.

While driving, you can also look for car products that ensure comfort while driving. For instance, various Daihatsu products such as Rocky, Ayla, Sigra, Grand New Xenia, All New Terios, All New Sirion, Luxio, Grandmax MB, and Grandmax PU are comfortable. These types of cars can minimize passenger nausea, as the vehicle systems can be operated smoothly while delivering maximum performance.
