10 Car Engine Cooling Tools, Functions and How They Work

10 Alat Pendingin Mesin Mobil, Fungsi dan Cara Kerjanya

When the car engine temperature exceeds the standard limit, it can lead to overheating, causing the engine to suddenly shut down. The car engine cooling system is useful for cooling the engine when the temperature reaches a certain limit, here is the explanation.

Here are 10 Car Engine Cooling Tools

Here are the vital components in the vehicle's engine cooling process, including:

1. Radiator

The radiator is the main component and plays an important role in cooling the vehicle, functioning to cool the water that has been used to lower the engine temperature by channeling air through the grille or openings.

This component is generally located separately from the engine, positioned at the front to bring in a supply of cold air, which is later needed in the cooling process.

2. Radiator Fan

As the name suggests, the radiator fan serves to provide airflow in that component, thus assisting in the cooling process of the water. However, this fan is different from a general fan that blows or circulates air.

3. Radiator Hose

Playing a role in distributing and connecting the coolant, the hose serves as a link between the radiator block and the engine to allow the flow of hot radiator water back to the radiator and vice versa.

There are two types of hoses, namely the lower hose to carry cold water to the hot engine and the upper hose to carry hot water from the engine temperature absorption to the radiator.

4. Thermostat

The thermostat is a cooling device with a valve that can operate automatically when there is a decrease or increase in the vehicle's engine temperature. However, the thermostat will only work when it reaches a certain hot temperature.

5. Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

This is a sensor that is useful for reading the temperature of the radiator water or coolant inside the engine. This sensor works by absorbing heat in the cylinder when the engine is running.

6. Temperature Gauge

This component plays a role in measuring the temperature in the cooling system, namely during the combustion process. The sensor can provide information after a response from the control unit, and that data is needed to adjust the fuel injection and the correct combustion timing.

7. Water Pump

The water pump is a tool for pumping or distributing coolant fluid from the radiator to the hot engine parts. The closure of the water circulation flows and expels heat energy from the engine.

8. Reservoir Tank

When the engine temperature is high, this reservoir tank works to hold steam coming from the radiator. The water produced will be stored when there is an increase in pressure in the upper tank or when the relief valve is open.

9. Radiator Cap

The cap serves not only as a cover but also as a guard for the boiling point of the water. Thanks to the cap, the water will not reach the boiling point of 100 degrees Celsius, and the radiator pressure becomes more stable.

10. Overflow Tank

The overflow tank is a container for water that has been cooled. Due to the cooling process, there will certainly be water that needs to be collected, and before being processed again, it must be stored to prevent excessive pressure.

Signs of a Damaged Car Engine Cooling System

Like other components, this tool can also experience damage due to many factors. Here are some signs of problems in the cooling system:

  1. Engine overheating when the AC is turned off, this occurs due to damage in the thermoswitch component, causing the fan not to turn on when the engine starts to heat up.
  2. Radiator water runs out quickly.
  3. Engine overheating when the car is driven at high speeds.
  4. Engine is too cold even though the vehicle has traveled a considerable distance.

Those are the 10 car engine cooling tools that are vital components for the vehicle's cooling process that must be known. If the car engine cooling system starts showing signs of damage, take it to the nearest Daihatsu workshop for proper handling.
