3 Signs of a Car's Platinum Being Damaged or Expired

In the series of car engine components, the ignition points have the main task of breaking and connecting the electrical current in the ignition system. So this device plays an important role in the vehicle's starter stage.

However, if it is damaged, starting the car will feel more difficult. Therefore, here are the signs of damaged ignition points that you need to recognize.

1. No Gap in the Ignition Points

If you experience a starter that does not function, it is worth checking the condition of the ignition points.

In cases where the ignition does not work at all, it may be caused by the gap in the ignition points being worn out or nonexistent, thus the activity of breaking and connecting the electrical current from the primary to the engine mass is lost.

It is advisable to open and check the condition directly. This worn out or missing gap could be due to the rubbing block of the ignition points being worn or the dwell angle adjustment being incorrect.

If the problem is wear, then you will likely need to replace it with a new one. However, for the issue of incorrect dwell, you will need to service the car.

In this condition, the sign of damaged ignition points will be evident from the difficulty in starting the car. In certain conditions, the vehicle may even suddenly die.

This is very dangerous while driving. This is because the coil winding does not produce high voltage and the spark plug does not create a spark.

2. Gap That Is Too Narrow or Small

If you find that the ignition points have a narrow gap, then its function will be greatly reduced. This can happen because the screws that hold the contact breaker are loose.

Components on the ignition points will cause the breaking gap to become smaller or narrower. As a result, the spark will become larger, affecting other components.

Such as the dwell angle position becoming larger. With this, the primary electrical current will increase faster and create a larger spark plug spark.

Even if the starter runs normally, this condition needs to be watched out for because this sign of damaged ignition points will affect heat and the rubbing block will wear out quickly.

3. Gap in the Ignition Points Is Too Wide or Large

In contrast to a narrow or small gap, this sign actually makes the dwell angle smaller. As a result, the incoming primary current will become shorter. If this happens, then the spark at the spark plug will definitely weaken.

The main factor for the weak spark is that the high voltage of the coil cannot operate effectively. Eventually, the engine power output cannot be optimal, combustion is disturbed, and starting becomes very difficult.

However, these signs of damaged ignition points can also be caused by the surface of the ignition points being burned or dirty. This causes the electrical current, voltage, and spark plug to not work optimally due to being too small.

Knowing about damage to the ignition points is indeed not easy. Moreover, the car's ignition has a very complex system. Therefore, you need to check and see directly the gap that the ignition points have.

If you find that the condition is nonexistent, small, or large, then immediately service it to avoid more severe damage.
