Cross joint or coupling joint serves as a connection between two shafts that are not aligned on the axis. Essentially, all motor vehicles will have similar components, including cars.

Although its position is not very visible, you need to know the signs of a damaged cross joint in a car to avoid accidents. Here is the review.

1. Vibration in the Car Body

All signs and symptoms that appear are related to the balance or equilibrium of the coupling that is reduced. Likewise, there is vibration when the car is moving.

This is not the vibration of the car caused by an uneven road surface, but rather the vibration caused by the cross joint no longer being stable.

This vibration will be felt even when you are driving on smooth asphalt. A car should have minimal vibration, but it will be the opposite if the cross joint is worn out and unbalanced.

This condition will worsen depending on the level of damage or wear on the coupling joint. Immediately service it to avoid severe damage.

2. Hearing a Buzzing Sound

Signs of a damaged cross joint in a car can also be found from the buzzing sound during travel. This problem usually occurs because the rotation of the coupling is no longer balanced, causing a buzzing sound to be heard from under the car.

Generally, the wear of the coupling can occur due to the car's age being more than 10 years or the cross joint being bent due to a collision. In severe cases, this buzzing sound can be accompanied by a clunking sound, as if the rotation of the axle starts to touch other components.

If you hear a buzzing or clunking sound, take it to a service center immediately. Because the coupling may suddenly detach, causing the car to need to be towed.

3. There is a Jolt

Just imagine if you roll a ballpoint pen on an uneven surface. You will see inconsistent rotation. This is what happens to a cross joint that is worn out and also unbalanced.

The signs of a damaged cross joint in a car are the jolts felt when the vehicle accelerates.

Generally, this problem will become more pronounced in cars with manual transmission, making the vehicle feel like it is stuttering or jerking.

Not only does it make it uncomfortable, but it can also increase the risk of traffic accidents. In severe conditions, this jolt can even occur when turning.

4. The Car is Unbalanced

In the case of cars with RWD or rear wheel drive systems, the coupling often has a heavier load. This is because the system prioritizes the use of the rear tires as the drive.

A damaged coupling, whether due to wear or bending from a collision, will reduce balance.

Generally, you can check the condition of the car's suspension by moving the steering wheel left and right. Observe the position of the tires and suspension to see the signs of a damaged cross joint in the car.

If you find that the condition of the tires or suspension is unbalanced, it is advisable to check this coupling immediately.

It can be said that the cross joint has a function that is just as important as other main components. Although it is not part of the engine, its role can be directly related to the car's handling
