5 Highest Mountains in Indonesia Located in Papua, No Wonder It's Called the Paradise of Indonesia

The Jayawijaya Mountains are a famous mountain range in Indonesia. This mountain range is located in Papua. Consisting of many interconnected mountains, Jayawijaya is recognized as the highest mountain range in Indonesia, with its highest peak being Puncak Jaya, my friend.
In addition to Puncak Jaya, there are four other peaks that are also among the highest peaks in Indonesia. Here are the 5 highest mountains in Indonesia, all of which are part of the Jayawijaya Mountains.
Puncak Jaya
The most famous of the Jayawijaya Mountains is undoubtedly Puncak Jaya. This mountain is the highest in Indonesia, standing at 4,884 meters above sea level, located in Papua, and is also among the top seven highest peaks in the world.
Puncak Jaya was first conquered in 1909 by a Dutch climber named Hendrikus Albertus Lorentz along with six Dayak people.
This mountain was previously named Piramida Carstensz because it was "discovered" by Jan Carstenszoon, a Dutch explorer who saw the snow-covered mountain despite the bright and hot weather.
Puncak Mandala
Below Puncak Jaya lies Puncak Mandala, the second highest mountain in Indonesia. With an elevation of 4,760 meters above sea level, Puncak Mandala is known for being a difficult mountain to conquer, making it not easily accessible to just anyone.
This mountain, located in Papua, is nicknamed Julianna, again created by the Dutch who once explored Papua. Puncak Mandala also has a thick snow glacier similar to Puncak Jaya. However, the glacier is thinning due to climate change.
Puncak Trikora
Puncak Trikora has an elevation of 4,730 meters above sea level. It is said that Puncak Trikora is harder to conquer than Puncak Jaya, my friend. This fact was confirmed by Mila, the first female climber to successfully conquer Trikora in 2018.
As the third highest mountain in Indonesia, Puncak Trikora has the lowest temperature of 4 degrees Celsius. Like the conditions of the mountains in the Jayawijaya Mountains, the snow conditions on Puncak Trikora are also diminishing due to global warming.
Ngga Pilimsit
Mount Ngga Pilimsit is also known as Mount Idenberg. This mountain, which ranks as the fourth highest in Indonesia, has an elevation of 4,673 meters above sea level. With the presence of Ngga Pilimsit, Papua has successfully placed five of its highest mountains among the highest in Indonesia.
Puncak Yamin
Puncak Yamin has an elevation of 4,535 meters above sea level. Being part of the Jayawijaya Mountains, Puncak Yamin was first climbed in 2018 by a climbing group named Wanadri. However, reaching its peak is still very difficult as only a few climbers have successfully conquered this peak.
In 1913, Puncak Yamin was known as Prins Hendrik-top. At that time, there was snow at the summit of this mountain, which was then named "eternal snow." However, that snow has now melted and no longer exists on Puncak Yamin.
Wow, all five of them have heights above 4,500 meters above sea level, right, my friend? Because of their height, there is even snow on Puncak Jaya. Climbers from America in the past were even amazed at how a mountain located in the equatorial region could have snow on it.
