Driving in the rain requires extra concentration. In addition to limited visibility compared to clear weather, puddles make vehicles harder to control and, of course, the braking distance can increase.

Moreover, other riders such as motorcycles sometimes make sudden maneuvers to avoid puddles, which can endanger other drivers.

Negligence while driving in the rain can certainly have fatal consequences. However, this can be avoided if drivers understand the necessary driving techniques and the car is well-maintained. Here are five things you should not do when driving in the rain.

Don't speed

Rain definitely makes the roads very slippery. When it has just rained, the roads usually become very difficult to control, as mud and oil on the dry road mix with water and form a very slippery layer.

Control of the car will certainly decrease, therefore drivers must be careful during the first half hour after the rain starts. It is advisable to drive the car slowly. This way will help the tires adjust to the weather changes, thus achieving better tire grip.

Don't drive with bald tires

Even though four-wheeled vehicles are more comfortable to drive in the rain, it does not mean that safety should be overlooked. Car tires must be kept in very good condition. Do not let bald tires pose the same risk of causing accidents on the road.

Moreover, bald tires reduce friction, making it easier to skid on wet or slippery roads. Vehicles traveling at high speeds with bald tires are very likely to become uncontrollable.

Don't drive if the wiper blades are damaged

Wipers serve as a means to support visibility during rain. Therefore, make sure the wipers are functioning very well. It will certainly be dangerous if you drive a car in the rain with worn or damaged wiper rubber; it is better to replace them with new ones before it rains.

Because if their ability to wipe away rainwater has decreased, it can be ensured that the driver's view will be completely obstructed during heavy rain.

Don't forget to turn on the lights when it rains

It is recommended to turn on the fog lights during rain conditions. Especially when it rains, fog often arises. At that time, these lights must be turned on. Additionally, do not turn on the hazard lights as this will confuse other drivers, both those in front of you and behind you. Use hazard lights only in emergencies.

Don't use the shoulder of the road when it rains

Even when it is not raining, using the shoulder of the road is certainly prohibited, especially on highways. Moreover, in rainy conditions, it is very dangerous for other drivers, especially with limited visibility.

In addition, the shoulder of the road during rain often has many flooded areas, especially since the drainage is very poor, leading to flooding. Therefore, avoid driving on the shoulder of the road if you do not want your car to break down.
