Car parking is one crucial part of keeping vehicle components from getting damaged. From the way to park, the position of the tires and steering wheel, to the location for car parking should not be arbitrary. Especially if the car is in a public place, you should be more aware of the potential for theft or vandalism.

Why the car tires should be straight is a question often considered a myth and also a fact related to the vehicle's function. Therefore, you need to know more about the safe parking position for the vehicle. Here are the reasons why the tire position should be straight when parking.

Reducing power steering load

This is a reason that is often debated as a myth or fact when parking. In fact, the position of the car tires positioned straight is a recommendation for cars with hydraulic power steering that still relies on oil. This is because the hydraulic system has pressure when the car's steering wheel or tires are turned, including when the car is parked. If left continuously, the rubber seal in the hydraulic system will wear out quickly.

In the position of the turned tires, power steering that still uses a hydraulic or fluid system will generally cause some power steering seals to leak. However, for power steering that has adapted to an electric model, it can also be affected from the side of the electric motor components that will wear out quickly.

Optimizing parking space position

In general, parking a car with straight tires actually makes it easier to manage the vehicle, especially when in a public parking area. The straight position of the car tires will make it easier to move the car when you park in a limited parking space. This way, even a limited parking area can be optimized to accommodate more cars.

When parallel parking, you may have been asked to position the handbrake in neutral. This is to allow the car to be pushed and moved even when the engine is off. Moving the car with straight tires will be easier, but the car will be difficult to push if the tires are turned.

If you do not want to be disturbed while parking, it is best to position the tires and steering wheel straight when parallel parking. This way, the car you parked parallel will not block other cars that want to exit the parking area.

Tire position needs to be turned on downhill roads

However, there are times when you need to park the car with the tires turned. Yes, one of the main considerations to remember is the safety factor. When the vehicle must park on an incline or decline, the car tires can be positioned in a turned condition.

If the steering wheel is turned with the tires also turned, the car will not roll straight into other parked vehicles in front or behind it. This way, you can be cautious in case the brake is released and the car rolls down by itself. The turned tire position is expected to make the car held by the curb or wall, minimizing the risk of accidents.

So, those are some reasons to ensure the steering wheel and tire position remain straight when parking. Essentially, the straight tire position when parking is intended so that you can be more comfortable while parking and not disturbed. Additionally, you can also ensure that the car components remain safe and avoid the risk of accidents.
