Before the car is released to the market, a series of Quality Control or QC is usually conducted first. This is intended to ensure that the car is suitable and ready for use.

However, for those of you who are less familiar with cars, you might panic when you find that the beam of the left and right lights is different. Don't panic, this is not a QC error. So why is that? Keep reading this article!

Here Are the Reasons Why the Car's Right Light Beam is Different from the Left?

If you are the type of customer who is quite meticulous, you will notice that the right and left light beams on your car have differences in height and projection for the low beam setting.

Don't worry, the technicians are not foolish. They have designed the car's structure in such a way for safety while driving.

So what causes this seemingly illogical design? Here’s the explanation:

Visibility Level

The placement of the right and left lights on most cars is made differently, but it doesn't have to be that way. However, most automotive companies assemble them this way.

Simply put, the left light is usually positioned 5 degrees more prominent than the right light. Some also say that the left car light is 5 cm higher than the right car light.

This is based on the need for a wider and clearer field of vision. With a wider range of illumination, you will find it easier to see road markings and be aware of slow-moving vehicles around you or if someone is overtaking.

However, it should be emphasized that this difference only applies when you set the lights to low beam because when on high beam or long-range light, both light up proportionally or symmetrically.

For Safety

The different placement of the two lights on the car also serves to protect us and other drivers from accidents. With a lower light beam on the right, other drivers will not be dazzled.

This means that since the steering wheel is on the right side, the right light is placed lower so that drivers from the opposite direction are not sharply illuminated. Thus, their eyes will be more comfortable and it will be easier to see other drivers.

So what about cars with the steering wheel on the left? The answer is the same, just reverse it. So if the steering wheel is on the right, the right light is lower. Whereas if the steering wheel is on the left, then the left light is made lower.

Facilitating Other Road Users

If you are driving at night and the road conditions are poorly lit, then the left light placed higher will be very beneficial for other road users and yourself.

As mentioned earlier, when overtaking, it will feel easier and the car in front will quickly recognize that you are about to overtake, indicated by the sharper beam of the left light compared to the right light.

So those are some reasons why the right light on Indonesian cars with the steering wheel on the right is made lower than the left light.

Let’s not forget to respect other road users by ensuring that the car lights meet safety standards.
