According to Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation, vehicle plates dominated by a red background are plates used for government agency vehicles. Because the use of cars with red plates has been regulated by the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Regulation (PerMenpan-RB) Number 87 of 2005 concerning Guidelines for Improving Efficiency, Savings, and Work Discipline. The rules for using cars with red plates are as follows.
- Cars with red plates (operational service vehicles) may only be used for official purposes that support the main duties and functions.
- Cars with red plates (operational service vehicles) may only operate on office working days, namely Monday to Thursday from 07:30 to 16:00.
- Cars with red plates (operational service vehicles) can be used outside of office working days provided they have obtained written permission from the agency leader or are used for official purposes out of town.
- Cars with red plates (operational service vehicles) are used by officials or government personnel assigned based on their competencies.
ASN employees who violate the provisions for using official vehicles (red plate cars) will be subject to disciplinary sanctions in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 94 of 2021. The sanctions can include a reduction in performance allowances, demotion, or dismissal with dishonor depending on the severity of the violation committed.
Other Plate Colors Used in Indonesia
In addition to red plates, cars or vehicles in Indonesia also use other colors to facilitate the identification process of vehicles. The plates are as follows.
1. White Plate
White plates are used for vehicles owned by individuals, legal entities, or foreign representatives (PNA) to international organizations. Plates with a white background and black writing replace the black plates with white writing.
2. Yellow Plate
For yellow plates, they are usually used for public transportation or public transport such as microbuses, Transjakarta buses, and so on.
3. Green Plate
