There are several countries that have implemented this technology with strict emission usage standards such as Europe (Euro6) and California (PZEV, Zev, SULEV, and ULEV). The replacement of eco-friendly fuel includes hybrid electricity, batteries, hydrogen, and fuel cells.

Types of Eco-Friendly Vehicles

1. Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)

The first type of eco-friendly vehicle is the Battery Electric Vehicle, where its power source uses batteries, making it more environmentally friendly. The carbon emissions produced are very low, between 0-5 grams per km only.

BEV is also known as All-Electric Vehicle (AEV) because it fully uses power from batteries. Electricity is stored in a battery called a battery pack, where the charging process uses an external electrical network.

The working mechanism of BEV is very simple, where the power from the battery is converted from DC to AC so that the car can move. Through the gears, the motor will connect and rotate the wheels. When braking, the motor becomes a generator that will produce electrical power to be stored back in the battery.

2. Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)

Hybrid Electric Vehicle is the most easily recognizable type of eco-friendly vehicle because it has two types of engines to drive it, namely traction and gasoline. Thus, its main fuel still uses gasoline. Traction serves as the second fuel or as an additional source.

HEV is also known as Standard Hybrid, which operates by rotating the transmission and moving the wheels simultaneously. When braking occurs, the engine will become a generator to supply power to the battery.

HEV vehicles do not have a port for charging, so they cannot be recharged from outside their system. However, despite this, they can still produce low emissions between 70-80 grams per km.

3. Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)

Another type of four-wheeled vehicle that uses eco-friendly technology is the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). This car is an advanced innovation of Hybrid. This type of Hybrid uses both ICE combustion and electric traction.

The power source of PHEV is fossil, such as gasoline and batteries. This type will operate using two modes, namely all electric mode and hybrid mode.

In All Electric Mode, the vehicle will only use the battery as its power source. Meanwhile, Hybrid Mode means using gasoline as its energy.
