What is TNKB? And Color Specifications That Must Be Known!
TNKB stands for Motor Vehicle Registration Number, which is commonly known as the police number or vehicle license plate. As you know, each type of vehicle has a different TNKB.
Most people in Indonesia own a motor vehicle. Every motor vehicle used must have a TNKB. However, there are still many people who do not understand TNKB, even though this is very necessary. To avoid confusion, pay attention to the review regarding what TNKB is and the color specifications that must be known as follows.
The Function and Importance of TNKB in Vehicle Administration
TNKB is proof that a vehicle is officially registered in the vehicle administration recognized by the state or the Indonesian National Police. The public can check TNKB offline or online to find out the official owner of a vehicle.
The creation of TNKB is not merely for knowing the vehicle owner, but also serves as a preventive measure against vehicle sale fraud, or to identify criminal acts involving vehicles in the process.
TNKB Specifications
Technically, TNKB has a rectangular shape with a thickness of 1 mm made of aluminum plate material. TNKB also measures 395 x 135 mm for four-wheeled vehicles or more. Meanwhile, the size of 250x105 is used for two or three-wheeled motor vehicles.
In addition, TNKB has a print of two lines consisting of letters in the first line and the beginning as a regional code of an area. Then in the middle, there is the police number, and at the end, there are letters as a regional code. In the second line, there are two digits for the month and two digits for the year as the validity period of the TNKB.
However, since April 11, 2011, there has been a change in TNKB. This change is due to the addition of the length of the TNKB to be 5 cm longer and the presence of a white line around the license plate.
In terms of color specifications, TNKB is divided into several colors according to the type of vehicle used. Here are some of the colors used:
1. White TNKB with Black Writing
This TNKB is used for personal vehicles, foreign representatives (PNA), international organizations, and legal entities since June 2022. This is in accordance with Perpol No. 7 of 2021 Article 45 paragraph 1.
This TNKB is also used as a replacement for the black TNKB with white writing. The color change is used to support the development of electronic fines (E-Tilang).
2. Yellow TNKB with Black Writing
This TNKB is specifically used for motor vehicles for public transportation purposes.
3. Red TNKB with White Writing
This TNKB is used for motor vehicles of a government agency.

4. Green TNKB with Black Writing

5. Special TNKB for Electric Motor Vehicles
According to Article 45 paragraph 2 of Perpol No. 7 of 2021. TNKB for electric cars has the same color as non-electric vehicles mentioned in Article 45 paragraph 1. However, for electric motor vehicles, there is a blue border around the plate.
So that is the explanation regarding TNKB and its color specifications. After you understand this, make sure your TNKB is officially registered and do not forget to pay taxes on time.
Sanctions and Legal Consequences for Not Having an Official TNKB
Vehicles that do not have an official TNKB or use fake license plates may face legal sanctions in accordance with the Traffic and Road Transportation Law. This violation can result in administrative fines, tickets, and even vehicle confiscation by the authorities. This aims to prevent the misuse of vehicles in criminal acts and ensure order and safety on the roads.
Article 263 of the Criminal Code:
Document forgery, including TNKB, can be punished with a maximum prison sentence of six years.
Article 280 of the Traffic Law:
The use of invalid or invalid TNKB, including fake TNKB, may be subject to fines.
Therefore, vehicle owners must ensure that the TNKB used is valid and officially registered.
