Types of Road Markings and Their Functions

There are several types of road markings that you must know. Here are the complete types along with their functions.

1. Solid Single Longitudinal Line Marking

The first type of road marking is the solid single longitudinal line marking. This type of marking means that you are not allowed to overtake other vehicles in front of you.

2. Single Longitudinal Line Marking with Broken Lines

The second type is the single longitudinal line marking with broken lines. This type of marking means that you are allowed to change lanes and overtake other vehicles, provided that the road conditions allow for overtaking, such as when the road is not congested.

3. Double Longitudinal Line Marking (Solid and Broken)

The third type is a combination of the previous two road markings. When your vehicle is on the solid white line marking, you are not allowed to change lanes. However, when you are on the broken line marking, you can switch to the side of the solid line.

YBJ or Yellow Box Junction is a road marking used to address congestion. In Indonesia, the implementation of YBJ markings has been applied in cities that frequently experience congestion, such as Bandung and Jakarta. This marking is usually found in the middle of an intersection with a yellow box shape.
