International Standard Car Testing Center Will Be Built in 2022

The international standard vehicle testing center is reportedly set to be built starting February 2022 in Bekasi. The Ministry of Transportation, through the Directorate General of Land Transportation, is preparing to construct a vehicle and motorized vehicle testing center, commonly referred to as proving ground. This testing center will meet the standards of the International United Nations Regulation (UNR). The vehicle testing center is being built in collaboration between the Government and Business Entities.
The government intends to build better driving facilities so that the vehicles circulating in Indonesia will be as advanced as those in other leading countries. The target is to establish the vehicle testing center in 2022 and officially operate the proving ground with international standards by 2024.
Design of the International Vehicle Testing Center
The vehicle testing center in Bekasi is planned to be built on a 90-hectare plot of land. The design of this vehicle testing center resembles actual road conditions. There will be potholes, inclines, and so on, so that certified vehicles meet the required standards.
The purpose of building this vehicle testing center is to enhance driver safety, minimize accident rates, reduce air pollution from exhaust emissions, and create job opportunities for the community, thus boosting the Indonesian economy.
The Director General of Land Transportation, Budi Setiyadi, plans to build this testing center in Bekasi as the largest vehicle testing center in ASEAN. Budi also hopes that this testing center in Indonesia will become a source of national pride as one of the testing centers with international standards in Asia.
What Facilities Will the Vehicle Testing Center Offer?
The government intends to build 19 testing facilities that comply with UMR standards and will later be implemented in ASEAN countries.
The facilities offered for motorized vehicles and cars include brake tests, noise emissions, speedometer, steering systems, and disabilities.
Additionally, there will be crash tests, seat belt anchors, seats, exhaust emissions, fuel consumption, and mirrors. There will also be testing for electric vehicles.
According to the law, cars and motorcycles must meet safety standards in accordance with applicable regulations. The Vehicle Roadworthiness Testing and Certification Agency (BPLJSKB) is the only government agency authorized to conduct physical testing of motor vehicles and ensure that motor vehicles are complete and meet all requirements, both technical and roadworthy. Tests conducted include headlight tests, brake tests, speedometer function tests, wheel hub tests, turning radius tests, weight measurements, horn tests, and exhaust gas emission tests.
BPLJSKB operates under the Directorate General of Land Transportation. BPLJSKB uses accurate and accountable testing equipment in accordance with UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) standards, which are vehicle safety standards agreed upon by the UN Economic Commission for European countries and have been widely adopted in various countries. The periodic testing equipment at BPLJSKB is also calibrated to ensure that the test results are accurate and accountable. This aligns with BPLJSKB's motto, which is MANTAP (Modern, Accountable, No Gratification, Transparent, Accurate, and Professional).
