ISC or Idle Speed Control is one of the car components that plays an important role in regulating idling speed, but unfortunately, ISC is prone to damage. Even drivers can feel several symptoms indicating that the ISC needs attention. Here’s how to fix a car's ISC? Here are the tips you need to know.
Symptoms of a Damaged Car ISC
A damaged vehicle ISC will produce several symptoms that can be directly felt by the driver.
One of them is the engine stalling on its own during idling due to the increasing load it has to bear.
Generally, this condition occurs when you try to turn on the AC while there is an increase in engine RPM.
However, when the ISC suddenly fails, the engine RPM will automatically drop, causing the engine to stop operating on its own. This condition can occur due to insufficient air supply when the engine load continues to increase.
Even when repeatedly trying to restart the vehicle, the engine will soon drop again.
Another symptom that appears is that the vehicle's RPM tends to be unstable. You can check this when positioning the vehicle at idle, where the engine speed will rise but suddenly drop and become unstable even when the gas pedal is not pressed.

Before knowing how to fix a car's ISC, you need to understand the causes. This condition occurs due to the excessive air entering the engine, causing the vehicle's RPM to continue to increase.
Meanwhile, a low air supply causes the engine RPM to drop. Therefore, you must ensure that the engine receives sufficient air supply for optimal performance.
The symptoms that appear when the vehicle's ISC is damaged are the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) blinking with an abnormal duration.
This condition is also accompanied by the appearance of DTC codes when attempting to perform scanning. But there’s no need to panic, as a damaged ISC can still be repaired.
1. Check the ISC Valve Wiring Harness
The first way to fix a damaged car ISC is to check the wiring harness ISC valve to determine the condition of the idle speed control valve circuit. If a broken circuit (open circuit) or a short circuit is found, it is understandable that this vehicle component cannot work optimally.
The inspection step for the wiring harness ISC valve is quite easy, as you only need to disconnect the cable connector on the ISC wiring and then remove the connector on the electronic control module E8. Next, you must check for open conditions and perform a short condition check according to resistance standards.

2. Visually Inspect the ISC Valve
Not done yet, as you also need to visually inspect the ISC valve to determine the condition of the engine. First, please check the condition of the seal for any damage.
If no damage is found, please check the condition of the pintle as this component is a major factor in air leakage.
3. Check the Pintle Section
The inspection then continues by checking the performance of the pintle to see if it functions optimally or if there are issues. However, make sure to check it carefully so that no part is overlooked.
