How to Detect Differential Conditions Before Buying a Used Car

The detection of the differential condition must be done regularly, as this component plays a very important role, especially in a car. Its main function is to differentiate between the rotational movement of the left and right wheel shafts.

Not only that, the differential also plays a role in transmitting, changing, and enhancing the performance of the drive shaft. If this component has problems, the car will have difficulty maneuvering on the road.

How to Detect Differential Condition

Unfortunately, behind this important role, many people neglect the condition of the differential, leading to worsening damage. Therefore, you can practice the following methods to check the condition of your beloved car's differential or when buying a used car:

Check for Oil Leaks

The first thing you can use as an alarm is the presence of oil drips at the bottom of the differential. Even if the drips or leaks are not significant yet, never underestimate them.

Especially if this condition occurs every day, the oil in the car will gradually diminish and run out. It is important to know that oil plays a crucial role in the performance of the differential.

If it becomes insufficient or even runs out, the performance of the differential will be disrupted. The car will not be able to accelerate, turn, or rotate perfectly. Over time, it is not impossible for the components to wear out and break.

Noise While Driving

A problematic differential will usually emit a humming or rattling sound. You can check this by driving the car and listening for any sounds coming from the differential area.

To do this, it is best to drive the car in a quiet area with minimal traffic. This way, you can hear the differential sound more clearly.

Don't forget to turn off the audio and multimedia devices, and open all the car windows. This is to minimize sound interference that may arise from the differential or other parts.

The sound is caused by hard friction occurring in the car components due to a lack of oil. What if there is still plenty of oil, but the differential still hums?

That means the viscosity level is no longer appropriate, as per the qualifications for the effectiveness of the differential. Simply put, viscosity can be likened to a condition where the oil has become worn out or stale, thus no longer performing optimally.

This condition can occur due to bacteria or reactions to other substances. However, it can also be because the car frequently passes through areas with high water acidity or containing salt.

Feel the Car Vibrations

In addition to humming, a problematic differential can also cause vibrations in the car. This is caused by damage occurring in the differential neck or perhaps a gear that has already broken.

Of course, these vibrations will greatly disrupt the journey and safety while driving, right? Therefore, make sure to always check the overall condition of the car, including the differential.

Another step you can take is to use quality components, both for the differential itself and its oil. Do not use components that are cheap but of poor quality in the long run.

If you are not very knowledgeable about the condition of the car and its components, make sure to find a trusted workshop. For Daihatsu car users, please access https://daihatsu.co.id/

Here, you can learn about various vehicle-related topics, such as the best tire brands, cool tips, and information about spare parts. More than that, you can also make an online booking service.

That way, you can just go to the workshop without having to wait long for a simple differential condition detection
