Inilah Cara Kerja Transmisi Manual Mobil, Wajib Tahu!

Every car owner with a manual transmission system should know how a manual transmission works. By understanding how it works, you can operate the transmission properly along with the correct maintenance methods. So how does it work? For more details, please pay attention to the following review.

Components of Manual Transmission in Cars

As a car owner with a manual transmission system, you are certainly curious about how this transmission works. However, before delving deeper into the workings of the transmission, it is advisable to know the components of the manual transmission in cars. This knowledge will help you understand how the manual transmission works. The complete components are as follows.

1. Gear shift lever

This component is in the form of a lever that functions as a gear shifter. This component is usually directly connected to the gear shifting system. When the gear shift lever is moved from the transmission input shaft, it will send a signal instruction to the shift fork to change gears.

2. Shift linkage

As the name suggests, the shift linkage connects the gear shift lever to the shift fork. With the shift linkage, the driver can select gears according to driving needs.

3. Shift fork

This component functions to shift gears according to the driver's instructions when moving the gear shift lever.

4. Transmission input shaft

The function of the transmission input shaft is usually to transmit power received from the engine to the components of the manual transmission system, especially the transmission gears.

5. Gear transmission

This component functions to regulate the speed ratio between the input shaft and output shaft. In vehicles with a manual transmission system, there are usually several gears. The first or second gear is typically used to increase torque or engine power. Meanwhile, the third gear to the last gear functions to stabilize engine RPM, ensuring driving comfort and fuel efficiency.

6. Synchronise gear

This component functions to match the speed of the selected gear with the speed of the input shaft or output shaft, making gear shifts smooth by preventing collisions between the surfaces of the transmission gears.

How Manual Transmission Works in Cars

After understanding the components of the manual transmission system in cars, you need to know how this transmission works. The complete working process is as follows.

1. Using the gear shift lever to control gear changes

The operation of the manual transmission in a car starts with the driver shifting the gear lever.

Cars with a manual transmission system usually have three to six gear speeds and one gear for reverse (R/Reverse gear).

The first gear is used to move the car at speeds of 0-20 km/h. The second gear is used to move the car at speeds of 20-35 km/h. These two gears are typically used when starting the car or to increase torque. The third gear is used to move the car at speeds of 35-45 km/h. The fourth and fifth gears are used to increase the car's speed between 65-100 km/h when traveling on the highway.

2. Coordinating the clutch and gas pedals

For the manual transmission system to work well, the driver must operate the clutch pedal to connect or disconnect power from the engine to the transmission system. At the same time, the gas must also be adjusted to the power and torque needed while driving.
