How to Install a Car Radiator Hose, Here Are the Easy Steps!
Car owners should know how to install a car radiator. The car radiator hose serves as a connection between the car radiator and the engine block. This hose is divided into two parts: the upper hose and the lower hose. If this hose is damaged or leaks, the radiator's performance in cooling the engine will be disrupted, leading to engine overheating. To prevent this, you need to know how to properly install the radiator hose as follows.
How to Easily Install a Car Radiator Hose Correctly
There are several steps you need to pay attention to when installing a car radiator hose. Here are the complete steps.
1. Drain the car engine cooling system first
Before you install the car radiator hose, there are several things you need to do first. One of them is to drain the cooling system when the engine is completely cool. As is known, the installation of the radiator hose should ideally be done by replacing the worn or damaged radiator hose with a new one.
2. Loosen the radiator hose clamp
The next step is to loosen the clamp on the cracked or broken radiator hose. It's easy, you just need to loosen the clamp and pull the hose from the connection, whether it's the connection to the engine block or the connection to the radiator.
3. Remove the hose
The next step is to remove the hose from the hose connection. You may need to exert more force if the hose has been installed for a long time. This usually makes the hose stuck and difficult to remove. If this happens, you can use a knife to cut the radiator hose.
4. Replace the old radiator hose with a new one
After you have removed the old or worn radiator hose, you need to attach the clamp back to the new radiator hose. Next, you need to insert the radiator hose into the hose connection, either at the engine block or the car radiator. Push the radiator hose forward while turning the hose left and right to make the installation process easier. Continue pushing until the new radiator hose is inserted to the point where the old radiator hose was installed.
5. Reinstall the clamp
If the radiator hose clamp you are using has spring tension, you just need to press and slide the clamp to the installation point, then release it. Make sure the clamp passes over the joint area (the area where the hose connects to the hose). However, if you are using a radiator hose clamp with an additional bolt, you will need to use a wrench or screwdriver to tighten the hose. Ensure the hose is installed tight enough, but not too tight. If the hose is installed too tightly, it will be difficult for you to reinstall the radiator hose later.
6. Refill the coolant (radiator water)
Once the radiator hose is installed, you can refill the coolant or radiator water. Next, you need to check the radiator hose again. Make sure the new radiator hose you installed is not bent or leaking. If a leak occurs, check the clamp to see if it is tightly installed. Tighten the clamp, or replace the hose clamp if necessary.
7. Start the engine
Next, you need to start the car to see if there are any leaks from the clamp or hose at the radiator connection. If there are no leaks, it means the installation of the car radiator hose is correct.
Considering the important role of the radiator hose in the radiator's performance in preventing overheating, you should regularly replace the radiator hose whenever you drain the radiator water. You can do the replacement every 20,000 kilometers or every six months.
