cara memperbaiki electric power steering

EPS (Electric Power Steering) is a system specifically designed to replace hydraulic power steering. The two systems may look similar, but what distinguishes them is the maintenance required to keep their performance optimal.

But how do you fix electric power steering if it feels heavy when operating the steering wheel?

1. Damage to the Steering

You should know that power steering is similar to an electric motor that generally relies on a stator and rotor to operate. In other words, EPS plays a crucial role in ensuring the vehicle operates optimally.

When damage occurs to one of its components, it is highly likely that the performance of the electric motor will be disrupted.

Brush or known as the steering brush is one of the components that is at risk of easy damage compared to other components. This component serves to channel electricity from the rotor.

When the steering brush is damaged, the rotation of the steering motor becomes weaker and hinders the performance of other components.

Wear on the brush can occur due to age and prolonged use. If you do not understand how to fix electric power steering, the vehicle's steering will certainly feel heavy.

Water that manages to enter the power steering is also one of the causes that hinder the performance of the component.

In such conditions, repairing it or even replacing it with a new one is the right solution you can apply. This solution can be implemented when one unit of the pump or one unit of rack steer is damaged.

2. Setting on EPS

Every vehicle owner must know that some cars are equipped with both auto and manual EPS settings. Both settings can be adjusted according to needs.

If the settings are not correct, it is not surprising if the vehicle's steering feels heavy, especially when the vehicle is moving at a certain speed.

3. Lack of Incoming Current

It is important to remember that the main power source for EPS comes from the vehicle's electrical system. This means that anything that obstructs the power supply to the steering motor is the main cause of the vehicle's steering feeling heavy.

For example, when the EPS fuse is blown or burnt, you need to apply the correct method to fix the electric power steering.

When this condition occurs, it is advisable to check the power steering motor fuse first. You can find this component in the fuse box in the engine compartment.

Please remove the fuse diagram and start examining each wire one by one to see if they are in normal condition or otherwise.

But what if the main cause of the damage lies in the vehicle's battery being weak? Starting the alternator to supply electrical current to the vehicle is a way to fix the electric power steering that you can try.
