Cara Mengendarai Mobil Listrik yang Aman, Pemula Wajib Tahu!

Electric cars are now widely found in Indonesia. In fact, several government agencies have made electric cars their official vehicles. So, is driving an electric car the same as driving a manual or automatic car in general? If you're curious, you must pay attention to the safe ways to drive an electric car as follows.

How to Drive an Electric Car Safely for Beginners

Here are some ways that beginners must pay attention to when driving an electric car.

1. Start the engine first

Just like using a non-electric car, before you drive an electric car, you need to start the engine first. However, in an electric car, you do not need to insert the car key into the ignition. You just need to press the brake pedal and press the start and stop button simultaneously.

This way, the digital display on the car's dashboard will light up and the car is ready to be driven. This happens because the technology used in electric cars is more advanced.

2. Release the handbrake or press the car's brake switch

After you have started the car's engine, you need to release the handbrake when you want to shift the car's transmission to move the car forward. The method is quite easy, you just need to lower the brake lever.

In addition, you can also press the parking brake or brake switch. Remember, when you want to do this, you also need to press the brake pedal. This is necessary to avoid sudden movement of the car.

3. Shift the transmission lever to the drive position "D"

Next, you need to shift the transmission lever to the drive (D) position or press the D button so that the car can move. Additionally, before you drive an electric car, you need to know the meaning of the car's transmission buttons or levers. For example, P for parking, N for neutral, R for reverse, and D for drive or gear shifting.

4. Press the gas pedal slowly and carefully

When you want to move the car, you need to be careful when pressing the gas pedal. Press the pedal slowly, so the car moves gently and safely. If you press the gas pedal carelessly, the car could accelerate rapidly, leading to an accident.

5. Obey traffic signs

To ensure your journey is always safe, you also need to obey traffic sign regulations. If you want to overtake other vehicles, take the right lane when passing on a two-lane road. Take the left lane when you are driving the car leisurely.

6. Always maintain distance

In addition to obeying traffic sign regulations, you also need to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you.

7. Regulate speed

To always be safe, you need to regulate your driving speed. Use a maximum speed of 40 km to 50 km per hour when driving in the city. When on the highway, use a maximum speed of 80 km per hour and a minimum of 60 km per hour.

8. Pay attention to battery power, range, and driving time

To avoid issues during your journey, you need to pay attention to the battery power condition. Make sure the battery is fully charged or at least 90% charged. Additionally, you need to prepare your travel route and the duration of your drive.

This is to ensure the car does not run out of power on the road. Make sure your journey does not exceed 3 hours when out of town, and not more than 2.5 hours when traveling in the city. Use ECO mode and regenerative system mode when braking to save power.

Thus, these are the safe ways you can practice when driving an electric car, quite easy, right?
