1. First, remove the rear tires of the car

The method is quite easy, you just need to prepare a ring or socket wrench to loosen the wheel nuts. Then, use a jack to lift the rear of the car. Don't forget to use a jack stand to facilitate the process of removing the rear tires. 

2. Remove the brake unit

Once the tires are properly removed, the next step in replacing the rear drum brake pads is to remove the drum. After removing it, you can see several components of the brake unit such as springs, wheel cylinders, and brake shoes. The next step is to clean these brake unit components. 

Then, use pliers to remove the retaining spring on the brake shoes. Pull the spring gently until it comes off. To make the removal process easier, you can remove the upper spring first. The last step is to remove the brake shoes so that the worn brake pads can be easily removed.

3. Replace with new brake pads

Once you have removed the worn brake pads, you can clean the brake unit. Don't forget to apply lubricant to that part. Next, reinstall the brake shoes, and replace the worn brake pads with new ones. Make sure you use original or standard-compliant pads. 

To get quality drum brake pads, you can purchase them at the nearest Daihatsu dealer. Don't forget to reinstall the other brake unit components according to the arrangement before you disassembled them.

4. Adjust the brakes

After all the brake unit components are properly installed, you need to adjust the brake function. Use a screwdriver to adjust the brakes, ensuring that the shoes are tight enough that the screwdriver cannot turn anymore. Once finished, don't forget to cover the drum brake unit with the brake unit cover.

5. Reinstall the rear tires of the car

After the brake adjustments are correct, you can reinstall the rear tires of the car in their original position. Use the jack to lower the car, then reinstall the wheel nuts in their original position. Use a ring or socket wrench to ensure the nuts are securely fastened.
