How to Easily Calculate Car CC, Here is the Formula!

When someone wants to buy a car, there are several aspects to consider such as the type of drive system, capacity, AC, CC, and so on. However, the aspect most often asked by car buyers is CC (Cubic Centimeter (Cm3). This aspect determines the car's performance when maneuvering. 

The larger the CC of the car, the faster its speed. However, if you want to choose a car that is more fuel-efficient, you can opt for a CC that is not too large. Below, we will explain how to easily calculate the CC of a car. 

How to Easily Calculate Car CC

When you want to know how much CC the car you are going to buy has, you must know the calculation formula. The CC of a car engine is measured in Cm3, which is Centimeter x Centimeter x Centimeter = Cubic Centimeter (Cm3).

In addition to memorizing this unit formula, you also need to memorize the formula for calculating the volume of a cylinder. To avoid confusion, pay attention to the formula and calculation example below.

1. Formula for calculating the volume of a cylinder

Suppose a cylinder has a radius of 5 cm, and the length of the cylinder is 13 cm. To find out the volume of the cylinder, you must perform the calculation as follows.

3.14 x (5x5) x 13 = 1,020.5 cc

2. Formula for calculating the combustion chamber

Suppose the combustion chamber of the engine has a diameter of 10 cm, and the piston area (l) is 13 cm. To find out the volume of the combustion chamber, you must perform the calculation as follows. 

3.14/4 x (10x10) x 13 = 1,020.5 cc

If you observe the calculation of the formula for calculating the volume of a cylinder with the formula for calculating the combustion chamber, it yields the same calculation value. 

Next, to find out the volume of the combustion chamber, you must first know the volume of the stroke on the piston (stroker / L mark on the piston). Additionally, you must also know the diameter of the combustion chamber (bore). To avoid confusion, pay attention to the formula below.

Calculation Example: 

You have a 2022 All New Daihatsu Xenia car with a 2NR-VE engine type. This car has a bore diameter of 72.5 mm and a stroke of 90.6 mm. Before you perform the calculation of the combustion chamber volume, you must first convert the units from mm to cm.

Diameter (Bore) = 72.5 mm = 7.25 cm

Piston stroke (L/Stroke) = 90.6 mm = 9.06 cm

After you have converted to cm, you can then perform the calculation of the combustion chamber volume as follows. 

= 3.14/4 x (7.25 x 7.25) x 9.06

= 0.785 x 52.56 x 9.06

= 373.81 cc

The CC value for one combustion chamber (1 cylinder) of the 2022 All New Daihatsu Xenia is 373.81 cc. 

As is known, the 2022 All New Daihatsu Xenia has 4 cylinders. So the total CC of this car is 373.81 cc x 4 (cylinders) = 1,495.24 cc or rounded to 1,500 cc.
