The Correct Way to Close a Car Hood, Pressed or Slammed?

When talking about how to close a car hood, people believe it can be done by either pressing or slamming it. However, recently there has been a debate between these two methods, resulting in two opposing camps. So which method is the most correct?

Closing the car hood by pressing it down is actually not recommended. Why is that? Isn't pressing less damaging to the hood compared to slamming? If you have that assumption, then you are mistaken. At first glance, closing the car hood by pressing seems less damaging than slamming it. However, the reality is different. In fact, closing the car hood by pressing it down poses risks.

If the car owner presses down on the hood when closing it, the potential for dents is higher. This can happen because there are parts of the hood that do not have a strong structure, so if they are subjected to continuous pressure, those parts can easily get dented. However, if you close the hood by pressing it down carefully and slowly, there is a high possibility that the hood will not lock properly. This is certainly very dangerous, especially when driving. The hood could suddenly open while the car is in motion.

This can happen because the hood usually has latches or hinges to lock the hood in place when it is closed. However, if the car owner does not lubricate those parts properly, the latch may not function even if the hood has been pressed down.

Therefore, the correct method for closing a car hood is by slamming it shut. However, when slamming, it should not be done too hard. To better understand how to close the hood properly, you need to pay attention to the following steps.

1. Make sure there are no items left inside the engine compartment

Before you close the car hood, you need to check the inside of the engine compartment. Make sure there are no items left in that space, whether it's tools or rags.

2. Lower the car hood slowly

Next, you need to position the hood about thirty centimeters above the closed position. Then, gently release the car hood until it closes completely. Lift the center part of the hood slightly to ensure that it is closed properly.

3. Raise to a higher position if the car hood is not closed

If the car hood is still not closed properly, you can repeat the step in point two. However, you need to lift it higher. For example, lift it forty-five centimeters from the closed position, then release it. By releasing the car hood from a higher position, the gravity generated will also be higher, allowing the hood to close perfectly.

Thus, the review on how to close a car hood correctly. So, you are no longer curious about which method is more effective, pressing or slamming. If your car hood is dented due to the habit of closing it incorrectly, you can repair the dented hood by servicing the car at an official Daihatsu workshop.
