Simple way, step by step to clean car AC

Steps to Clean Car AC

To ensure your Daihatsu car's AC system works efficiently and keeps the air inside the vehicle fresh and clean, there are eight steps that must be taken.

1. Gather Supplies

AC cleaning solution
Vacuum cleaner with brush

Mask (optional)
Screwdriver (if needed to access the air filter or vents)

2. Prepare the Car

Park the car in a well-ventilated area, preferably outdoors. Open all doors and windows to allow fresh air to circulate through the cabin.

If the car has a cabin air filter, locate and remove it according to the vehicle manufacturer's instructions. This filter needs to be replaced or cleaned separately.

3. Clean the Vents and Interior Surfaces

Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush to remove dust, dirt, and debris from the vents and interior surfaces. Pay attention to the vents located on the dashboard, near the windshield, and at the back of the vehicle.

Use a microfiber cloth to wipe down each surface with a non-corrosive cleaning solution, including the dashboard, console, and door panels to remove any remaining dust or dirt.

4. Apply AC Cleaner to the Fresh Air Vents

Follow the instructions on the AC cleaning solution and apply it to the fresh air vents. Be sure to wear gloves and a mask to protect yourself from chemical exposure. Allow the cleaner to penetrate the system for the recommended time.

5. Turn on the AC

Once the cleaner has worked, start the car, turn on the AC system, and set it to cool mode at maximum speed. Let the AC run for a few minutes to distribute the cleaner throughout the system. This process will help eliminate foul odors and improve air quality.

6. Replace or Clean the Cabin Air Filter

If the car is equipped with a cabin air filter, check if it needs to be replaced or cleaned. A dirty or clogged air filter can restrict airflow and reduce the effectiveness of your car's AC system.

If the filter is reusable, you can clean it by gently tapping it to remove dust and dirt, using a vacuum cleaner, or blowing it out with air. Spray with disinfectant afterward for precaution.

Alternatively, if the filter remains dirty even after cleaning, you may need to replace it entirely. Be sure to replace the cabin air filter as per the vehicle service intervals.

7. Disinfect the Interior

Consider using disinfectant spray to clean the interior surfaces of the car, including the steering wheel, door handles, and armrests. Pay special attention to frequently touched areas, which are breeding grounds for germs and bacteria.

8. Routine Maintenance

To keep your car's AC system in top condition, make cleaning a part of your regular maintenance routine.
