Daihatsu Taft - Specifications, Prices, and Variants

The Daihatsu Taft is a 4WD vehicle manufactured by Daihatsu, produced from 1974 to 2007. In several countries, this car has different names. Rugger, Scat, and Wildcat are three of them.

During its production, this car has produced several types. One of them is the F10, which was first sold in 1976. In addition to types, the Daihatsu Taft also offers various variants available in the market.

Taft Reborn

This can be considered a relatively new variant of the Daihatsu Taft. Released last January, this car has interesting specifications. There are three types of this Daihatsu Taft variant. Type X, Type G, and Type G Turbo are the three.

Type X

This is the lowest type of the Daihatsu Taft. The hallmark of this type is the presence of simple 2WD and 4WD wheels. Another characteristic found in this car is the dashboard wrapped in orange accents.

In terms of the engine, this type uses a 658 cc 3-cylinder DOHC-based engine. This engine can produce a maximum power of 51 hp at 6,900 rpm, and a maximum torque of 60 Nm. The price for one unit of this car is set at Rp 186.7 million.

Type G

This one is the mid-range type of the Daihatsu Taft Reborn. The type of tires and engine in this type is not much different from Type X. The price is also the same, around Rp 186.7 million. The difference between this type and the previous type is the presence of 15-inch aluminum wheels and ABS-based brakes.

Type G Turbo

This is the highest type of the Daihatsu Taft Reborn. Compared to the two previous types, this type has more diverse features. Eco idle, panoramic monitor, smart panoramic parking assist, lane departure warning, and roadside deviation warning are some of them.

Another distinguishing feature is in the engine sector. In this type, the engine used is 658 cc, which can produce a maximum power of 63 hp at 6,400 rpm, and a maximum torque of 100 Nm. In the market, this highest type of Daihatsu Taft Reborn is priced at Rp 239 million.

Taft Rocky

The Daihatsu Taft Rocky we are discussing here is its latest version. Not the old version that was sold in the 1980s - 1990s. Compared to the old version, the latest version has more interesting specifications and a smaller shape. In the market, this car is priced around Rp 200 million - Rp 276 million, depending on the type of the car itself.

Taft Rocky Interior

Let's discuss what the inside of the Taft Rocky looks like. Overall, the interior of this Taft variant has a futuristic, simple concept, and is dominated by gray color.

The cabin of this car is equipped with a floating head in the center, as well as a transmission lever. The transmission lever on the Taft Rocky itself is quite unique.  

It is said to be unique because although it is located in the center of the cabin, the lever is positioned slightly towards the center. The cabin of the Taft Rocky is also equipped with a steering wheel that has various buttons.

Unlike the old edition of the Taft Rocky, the trunk of the latest Taft Rocky does not have a spare tire at all. This makes the trunk tend to be spacious, allowing for a large amount of cargo.

Taft Rocky Exterior

Unlike its predecessor, the exterior of the latest Taft Rocky looks cuter. This is due to its much smaller shape now. The exterior of the Taft Rocky itself somewhat resembles the exterior of the Daihatsu Terios. The difference is that the Taft Rocky has black skirts around it.

The Taft Rocky also has 17-inch wheels mounted on 195/60 tires. There is also a large grill with horizontal lines and a glossy black color on its surface.

Taft Hiline

This can be said to be one of the rarest Taft variants available in Indonesia, and even in the world. This is because the Taft Hiline is the only Taft variant that has a 4x2 variant.

This car, also known as the F69, has 3 wheelbase variants. They are the Hiline GTS short-wheelbase, Hiline GTL long-wheelbase, and Hiline GTX medium-wheelbase.  

The engine of the Taft Hiline and its variants is the same as the engine in the general Taft car. The difference lies only in the wheel drive system. The wheel drive system in the Hiline generally uses rear-wheel drive only. Except for the Hiline GTL and GTS, which use a 4-wheel drive system.

Taft F50

This one is part of the first generation of the Daihatsu Taft. This car, also known as the Taft Kebo, has not only been used as a personal vehicle. But it has also been used as a government service vehicle in Indonesia in the past.

This variant of the Daihatsu Taft uses a Diesel DG 2,500 cc engine. This engine has a maximum power of 60 Hp and a maximum torque of 146 Nm. This engine makes the F50 a tough, fuel-efficient car that can withstand poor diesel.

After 1985, this car was no longer produced. Now, the Taft F50 has been developed into other variants of the Daihatsu Taft. One of them is the Daihatsu Taft Rocky that we discussed earlier.

Things to Consider When Buying a Daihatsu Taft

Engine

The engine is the main component in a car, including the Daihatsu Taft. When buying this car, make sure the engine does not make too much noise, has excessive vibrations, and does not emit black smoke. If these three things occur, it means the Taft car you want to buy has engine problems.

It is often found that used Daihatsu Tafts have uneven suspension. To prove whether the suspension is balanced or uneven, you can test it on a straight and flat road. Observe whether the suspension on the right and left is balanced or the opposite.

STNK and BPKB

These two things should certainly be considered when buying any type of car. Including the Daihatsu Taft, of course. Make sure the engine and chassis numbers on the car match those listed on the STNK and BPKB. Also, ensure that these two documents are written in the name of the original owner of the car.
