The Function of the Cushion Plate in Car Clutch and Its Components

Talking about manual car transmission, it cannot be separated from the role of the clutch plate. This component helps other clutch units to transfer the engine's rotation to the transmission. However, within the clutch plate, there is an important component called the cushion plate or the seat for the clutch plate.  The cushion plate in the clutch plate functions to minimize the shock effect of the engine when the clutch operates.

The cushion plate in the clutch plate does not work alone, but is supported by other components. To avoid confusion, first understand what the actual function of the cushion plate is along with other supporting components. Here is a complete review.

Function of the Cushion Plate in the Clutch Plate

The cushion plate has the main function of smoothing out vibrations or shocks that occur during the process of disconnecting and connecting the engine's rotational power to the transmission.

In addition to minimizing the shock effect of the engine when the clutch operates, the cushion plate in the clutch plate also serves as the seat for the clutch plate or facing.

As is known, the transmission holds the control function of the car; if the transmission functions well, the control of the car will also be good. To achieve this, you must also pay attention to the clutch plate and other supporting components.

Components Inside the Clutch Plate

Here are some components inside the clutch plate that you need to know.

1. Clutch Hub

This component is located in the center of the clutch plate and functions to connect the input shaft in the transmission with other clutch plate units. In addition, this component can make the clutch plate unit move forward and backward, although its movement is limited.

2. Torsion Dumper

Functions as a shock absorber or twist that occurs during deceleration or acceleration of the car.

3. Disc Plate

Functions as a load holder when the car is moving; this component is one of the main units in the clutch plate.

4. Facing (clutch lining or clutch plate)

Functions to transfer power and engine force in the car to function optimally by increasing friction.

5. Cushion Plate

As the seat for the clutch plate or facing. In addition, the cushion plate in the clutch plate functions to minimize the shock effect of the engine when the clutch operates.

6. Rivet

Functions as a unifier of several clutch plate component units (such as the clutch plate with the cushion plate, and the disc plate with the cushion plate).

Thus, here are some components of the clutch plate that you need to know. After you understand these components, you also need to know the signs that the clutch plate is starting to wear out or needs to be replaced. For more details, pay attention to the following review.

Signs the Clutch Plate is Worn Out or Needs to be Replaced

Here are some signs you need to pay attention to in order to know the condition of the worn clutch plate:

1. The clutch pedal appears higher

The first sign, you can observe the position of the clutch pedal. If its position looks higher than the previous position of the clutch cable, then you need to be cautious; it means you need to replace the clutch plate because it is worn out.

2. Feels heavy when shifting gears

The gear shift can also be an indicator of whether the clutch plate needs to be replaced or not. If you feel heavy when shifting gears, it indicates that the clutch plate is worn out.

3. Engine easily overheats

The next sign, the car engine overheats or easily gets hot. This occurs due to increased engine performance because the engine rotation is spinning beyond normal limits. This rotation occurs because the surface of the clutch plate is too slippery.

4. Burning smell appears

The next sign is the appearance of a burning smell from the cabin. This condition occurs due to the clutch plate burning.

5. Decreased engine acceleration

The last sign is the emergence of engine acceleration problems. As a result, the car engine will lack power even though the gas pedal has been pressed.

If these conditions occur in your car, immediately replace the clutch plate. You can perform the replacement at the nearest Daihatsu dealer to restore optimal engine acceleration.
