Fungsi Ignition Switch pada Mobil dan Pentingnya dalam Sistem Penguncian

The function of the ignition switch in a car is quite important, especially in the locking system. In addition, the ignition switch also has other functions that are equally important. To understand the complete functions of this component, you need to pay attention to the following review.

Function of the Ignition Switch in a Car

Before you learn about the functions of the ignition switch in a car, it is best to familiarize yourself with this component first. The ignition switch is a component found on the car's dashboard. Specifically, it is located around the instrument panel area or around the steering wheel area and serves as the car's ignition keyhole. The hole of the ignition switch itself is designed to only accept one ignition key.

The ignition switch has a crucial function in the car's ignition system. The starting and stopping of the engine along with other systems in the car depend on this component. Rather than being curious about the functions of this component, let’s take a look at the complete functions as follows.

1. Starting and stopping the vehicle's engine

The ignition switch has the main function of starting and stopping the vehicle's engine. Therefore, this component is known as the ignition switch. When you want to start the car, you need to insert the car key into the ignition switch hole.

After the car key is inserted, turn the car's position to "Start" and automatically, the electrical current flows to the starter motor. Next, the starter motor will move the crankshaft along with other components to start the engine and process the fuel combustion in the engine cylinder. At the same time, the fuel pump and ignition system are activated.

If you want to turn off the car engine, you just need to turn the key from the "Start" position to the "Acc" or "Off" position. In this condition, the electrical current flow from the ignition switch that is distributed to all car systems will automatically stop working, including the fuel pump and ignition system.

2. Activating and controlling the ignition system

The next function of the ignition switch is to activate and control the ignition system. When you turn the ignition switch key to the "On" position, the electrical circuit automatically flows to the ignition coil and spark plugs. The ignition switch will control the electrical current according to the needs of the ignition process so that the spark generated is optimal. This way, the car engine runs smoothly and the power produced by the engine is also optimal.

3. Activating and controlling the fuel system

The ignition switch also functions to activate and control the fuel system. When you start the car or the ignition switch is in the "Start" or "On" position, the fuel system will automatically turn on. In this condition, the fuel pump will pump and deliver fuel from the car's tank to the engine as needed.

4. Activating all electrical systems

The ignition switch also functions to activate all car electrical systems. Starting from the lighting system, AC system, audio system, to other systems that require electrical current. However, when you change the ignition switch position from "Start" to "Lock" or "Off", all electrical systems in the car will automatically turn off.

5. Ensuring vehicle security

In addition to the functions above, the ignition switch has another vital function, which is to ensure vehicle security. When you turn the ignition switch key to the "Lock" or "Off" position, the car's locking system will be locked so that others cannot start the car engine. Moreover, the ignition switch that has additional features such as an immobilizer will greatly enhance the car's security, preventing criminal acts such as theft of items inside the car or car theft.

Considering its important functions, you should routinely maintain the ignition switch. If this component has problems, take your car to a Daihatsu workshop so that the issues can be resolved promptly.
