The Function of the Input Shaft in Cars and How It Works, Let's Understand

Fungsi Input Shaft pada Mobil dan Cara Kerjanya, Yuk Pahami

Understanding the functions of the input shaft in a car and how it works is essential. Especially for car owners with manual transmission types. This transmission component plays a significant role. So what are its functions? And how does it work? To find out, let's take a look at the following review.

Functions of the Input Shaft in a Car

The input shaft has an important function in a car, which is as a supporting component that helps rotate the gears inside the car's gearbox. As is known, the input shaft is the axis or shaft connected to the clutch. Later, the engine power from the clutch will be channeled to the input shaft, and that power will be transmitted to the gearbox (gear wheels).

How the Input Shaft Works in a Car

The way the input shaft works in a car can be said to be quite simple. When the driver shifts the transmission lever or changes gears, the input shaft can start to work. Why is that? Because the input shaft is the component that is directly connected to the gear section. When you change your car's gear, the input shaft is the first component that automatically engages with the gear shift. This way, the gear shift will feel smoother, making the car easier to control.

Other Components that Support the Performance of the Input Shaft

For the car's transmission system to work optimally, the input shaft certainly needs assistance from other transmission components. Here are some supporting components for the input shaft's performance that you need to know.

1. Output Shaft

Functions as a housing for the car's gears. The output shaft will facilitate the transfer of torque from the car's transmission to the final gear of the car.

2. Counter Gear

Functions as a torque generator that comes from the input gear to the speed gear.

3. Reverse Gear

Functions as a converter of the output shaft's rotation so that the car can be easily controlled when reversing.

4. Speedometer Gear

Functions as an indicator of the car's speed. This way, the driver can monitor the driving speed so they know when to increase or decrease speed.

5. Synchronizer

Functions as a gear shifter when the car is maneuvering. This way, the gear can be shifted safely and easily even when the car is in motion.

6. Hub Slave

Functions to adjust or lock the speed gear so that it can regulate the output shaft's function to stop or rotate.

7. Main Bearing

Functions as a friction damper between transmission components. This significant friction will be reduced so that it does not damage the surfaces of the transmission components that are in contact. This way, the lifespan of the transmission components is longer and less prone to wear.

8. Transmission Case

Functions as a storage container for transmission oil and bearing pads along with their shafts.

9. Shift Linkage

Functions to connect the shift fork with the transmission lever.

10. Shift Fork

Functions as a gear shifter from its shaft, making the process of shifting the transmission gear easier.

11. Transmission Gear

Functions to convert the input power of the car's engine into torque when released. The shifting of this transmission gear is usually adjusted to the driver's needs. If the car needs to move at a higher speed, the transmission gear will usually be changed to a higher gear.

12. Transmission Lever

Functions as the control center for the transmission; if the driver wants to get a higher gear, the driver moves the lever to a higher gear position.

Thus is the review of the input shaft along with other manual transmission components. Considering the important function of manual transmission in controlling engine power and torque, it is advisable to regularly and periodically check the condition of the transmission components. If these components are worn, immediately make repairs at the nearest Daihatsu workshop. Because Daihatsu workshops have professional mechanics, complete repair equipment, and provide guaranteed original spare parts.
