In the braking system of a car, there are various car components that must be understood. One of them is the function of brake pads. Essentially, every braking component has an important function.

Among the braking components, brake pads are the most frequently mentioned. So, what is the actual function of this component?

Function of Brake Pads

The location of the brake pads is close to the wheels. Brake pads play a vital role when discussing the car's braking system.

So, what are the functions of car brake pads? Here are the complete functions of this component:

1. Making Braking Easier

The first function is to make the braking system much easier. When making sudden stops, brake pads will help the driver avoid unexpected incidents.

Later, the brake pads will press the disc brake and make the car's tires stop according to the depth of the pedal press.

Therefore, brake pads must be replaced periodically when they start to wear out. Ensure the brake pads are original, do not use fake brake pads.

2. Making Braking Control Easier

In addition to making braking easier, brake pads also make braking control just as easy.

The components located in this abrasive layer function to ensure that the braking system can work optimally. Especially when the car is moving and wants to stop or turn.

The braking system will definitely be involved. Not only that, brake pads will also affect the car's speed.

As a driver, you certainly want to control the vehicle well. The presence of brake pads allows the car to be controlled fully without causing significant problems.

3. Helping Vehicles Navigate Difficult Terrain

When driving a car on difficult terrain, the brake pads play a significant role. Whether on downhill or uphill roads, you will surely step on the brakes.

When on an incline and in a fairly crowded situation, the brake pads will hold the car's speed, thus reducing acceleration.

Signs Brake Pads Need to Be Replaced

After understanding the function of brake pads, the next step is to know the signs that brake pads are worn out and need replacement. Here are various signs of worn-out brake pads, including:

1. Squeaking Sound Heard

When should you replace brake pads? When you hear a squeaking sound while pressing the brakes, this is a common sign that the brake pads need to be replaced as they are starting to wear out. The sound resembles metal or iron friction.

Why does this happen? The reason is that worn brake pads will leave behind their metal parts.

If this happens, the braking system is no longer affected by the pads, but by the metal parts. This is the cause of the squeaking sound when pressing the brake pedal.

2. Brake Pedal Vibrates When Pressed

What happens if the brake pads are worn out? In addition to producing a squeaking sound, another sign is that the brakes vibrate when pressed.

This is usually caused by the brake pads being too thin, preventing the disc from gripping properly.

As a result, you will feel vibrations on the brake pedal. Don't be mistaken, this vibration is not only felt on the brake pedal but also reaches the steering wheel if the condition worsens.

3. Brakes Are Less Responsive

This sign is the most noticeable. Brakes that are less responsive are a clear indication of worn-out brake pads. This is caused by uneven pressure of the pads on the disc.

As a result, the brake surface area becomes smaller, and the braking force also becomes less effective, even though you are pressing the pedal very deeply.

If the function of the brake pads has diminished, do not wait too long to visit a workshop and replace the brake pads of your car.

Why should brake pads be replaced? This is to avoid damage to other components in the car.

It is advisable to choose the best brake pads recommended by authorized workshops that have been tested for quality. Visit an authorized workshop or Daihatsu dealer for proper handling from technicians.
